Well taxes were pretty decent to me and I think I want a quality Tonneau cover for my truck. My brother has Retrax, which looks nice and appears very good quality, just wanted to know what everyone else is using and what they like and don't like.

I had one...don't remember the brand...and hated it. Pain in the ass to always unlock/unlatch it and get into the bed. Hard to carry oversized stuff with it. Business partner had one, too. We were constantly fighting with his to get stuff for classes in and out.
I got rid of it and got a topper. Much happier, much easier to use, WAY more convenient in my opinion.
Some say a cover increases fuel mileage. Consumer Reports testing doesn't show that. In face, according to CR, fuel mileage went down 10% or more with a tonneau in place.
If you use the bed of your truck a lot (I do), find out how hard it is to get into it with the tonneau in place. My experience is 10+ years old, too, so the market may have changed substantially.
For me, a tonneau was an expensive mistake. Other guys swear by them, though.

I have a roll up-style tonneu cover. It came with the pickup when I bought it. I like it for what it does. Rainstorms while on road trips with the family make me glad I have it. Most of the time, it's just rolled up and out of the way.
There's a fine line between cuddling and holding someone down so they can't get away.
Bak-flip came on the truck I just bought. I like the appearance and security, but I wish it was more water tight than it is. I haven't used the bed for anything of size yet so I can't comment on it's performance when folded up and moving. Folds fine though

It's a measure of the civility in this country that no ones seems to fear constantly pissing off the people who own lots of guns.
I sell them as well as have had them on my trucks. I currently have an Undercover UltraFlex which is a hard trifold. They can position all the way forward letting you use your whole bed without removing from vehicle. They are lockable with the tailgate. They are very waterproof. The downside is the exterior is aluminum which is prone to damage from hail. Not anything that makes it unusable, just dinged.
I have also had one piece hard tonneau covers which are the highest security but the most difficult with large loads or impossible if you plan to load a motorbike.
The best hard cover for the outdoorsman is a diamondback. You can load your atv or snowmobile on top of it.
I personally never liked the vinyl roll up style. Had one 20 years ago.
The aluminum roll up style is probably second to the hard folding but you end up with a big roll in the front when rolled up that gets in the way when loading big things or motorcycles.
Retrax, BAK, Truxedo and Extang are probably the other larger makers. There are smaller market players like ARE, American and Gator as well.
If you have a tool box or things you use your bed for you will find that those things will narrow down significantly which models will work for your truck.
I recommend sitting down with someone who sells them and figure out which one will work best for you.
I say lets all remove the warning labels and let nature take its course.
I like the roll up style but I see that you lose some of the bed length. I like that it appears easy to use and locks. I want something that I can keep somewhat secure while on road trips or stopping at a restaurant on the way to camping or shooting. I was thinking about a topper until I saw some of these other bed cover options. I know the old ones really limited the usage of the bed. I have never had one before. My pickup truck took a crap on me last week and I am purchasing a "new to me" truck which is significantly newer than my old truck and I want to do a few things like this. My brother has the retrax, which he likes, and I think it's pretty rugged from what I've seen, I just wanted to know what else is out there. It will be for a 2017 RAM 1500.
I might do those cheap tonneau cover from Ebay.
I just need something to cover those items on the bed.
I might use shower curtains bars and tarp to do some kinda soft cover diy.![]()
The Retrax is nice, I've installed quite a few over the years but you do loose a bit of bed space that holds the mechanism. Tri folds are nice as well and do not use up inside bed space. Your preference really.

I really want a Bakflip MX4 someday. I just can’t spend as much as they want for them. I had a friend that could get them down to $600 range but has been MIA.my buddy has one and it’s really nice.
