Default Members who do podcasts (or have dabbled in it)?

Wondering if anyone here does a podcast, has dabbled in it, or has insight on needed equipment?

I've been thinking about getting some equipment and doing it for a while. Mainly for family, friends, and to have things for the kids to listen to later in life.

Definitely interested in what it takes to do geographically separated recordings (e.g., people calling on phone), since recording conversations with my parents and parents-in-law would certainly be beneficial for the kids later on.

I?ve watched a bunch of podcasts (or vlogs or whatever) but I?m not interesting enough to make my own.

I?ve seen decent quality ones done with cell phones but it seems a lot of the more serious people actually use pretty nice camera equipment.

Useless post but that?s all I?ve got.

mainly interested in audio, since main focus would be putting together focused conversations with/for friends and family, who are geographically diverse.

Posterity. For example, I really want to get my dad's stories and family history for the kids.

I'd like to be able to have that stuff available for my brothers, or interview them and have that available for their kids, our parents, etc.

I'd like to be able to get down some audio about unit history (that won't make it into the history books) from the guys I served with overseas; their perspectives on what we did/went through all those years ago, how they've moved forward, etc.; that stuff could then be made available to everyone in our group of friends. It might spawn more memories and allow a comprehensive understanding to come together to assist certain guys who struggle with certain things. Etc.

Mainly looking at it as an archival mechanism for things which would come out in a conversation rather than asking someone to just write something down or record it on their own, since dynamics really color the end product.

Try to have everyone wear headphones so they can hear themselves. Initially people don't like hearing themselves, but it allows them to be able to hear when they're too far from the microphone and stuff is difficult to hear. It's terrible when one person is like and clear, but you can barely hear the other person.

Gotcha. That was first sort of what I thought you were trying to do but then I got confused and was thinking you were just trying to do some group video chat with faraway relatives.

Would these be one on one calls? Or would these be a multiple person call with multiple people in the room?

Why not just use a phone call recording program?

I'm thinking 1-1, but if I thought it wouldn't turn into a game of conf call bingo, I'd be into multi-person.

Probably a mix of in-person and phone call, depending on who/what.
