Another issue in the beef game is producers not happy with processors. They claim processors suppress price they will pay for cattle and inflate price they sell to retail, manipulating market both directions
They do. Once the livestock is sold for an agreed price, the new seller sets price. However atm some people who raise livestock have bumped their prices up, like way up. One of my sources for fresh meat says she looked at a few head of cattle on a monday. Tuesday morning she saw the same exact cattle with a $500 higher per head, increase.

Locally sourced is the hot commodity atm, everyone in the game is taking advantage, just like gun , ammo and reloading vendors.

Anyone see PSA's prices the last few days?

I had originally deleted the posts made by iego above so as to remove his poison from the site and to keep the thread clean. It was pointed out to me that folks need to see the toxicity that he felt needed to be included so everyone could understand why he has been given 90 days away from the site.

Please keep the thread on topic and polite.

I say "please" and try to project level-headedness but the fact is I keep the ban hammer well polished and ready for use. Don't give me a reason to use it.

'Nuff said on this issue - now back to our meat thread - already in progress.

Glad you did. I wasn't online much yesterday & didn't get to this thread until this morning.

I've had moments here, being ornery. But still...

This is not a venue for that kind of insolence & wholly belligerent attitude. How disappointing.

Producers were paying what the market would bear. There's a million head backlog of slaughter ready cattle at this point. Some producers have since started paying what's hoped to be an "acceptable" price for cattle considering the climate. None of the beef industry is acting like a free market should because of the limited labor to produce what retail demand is necessitating. Hell, Tyson started paying more for cattle and artificially reduced their retail prices to "keep beef affordable" despite no decreases in demand.

Prices seem to be different in other states, too- my Mom says ground beef on sale was $6/pound. For seniors trying to subsist on social security, this is especially terrible.

I?m not familiar with the cost of living up that way. I?m guessing $15 a lb is probably some sort of weekly special.

FWIW, both the Costcos on Santa Fe in Sheridan and on Quincy at Wadsworth have had a steady supply of meat. Not massively overstocked, but not out either. Small increase in beef price recently, but not terrible. I never keep up with ground beef prices, so not sure on that.
