My finishing experience is about 16 years outdated relative new chem coat tech, but I will chime in.

I would get akzonobel sikkens exterior finish and brush finish it. Again 16yrs ago, not many companies can spray finish those sikkens. I am sure there are now spray finish solns now.

If facing west or south, more coat is highly recommended.

Ask top 5 millwork/finish/lumber companies in colorado, and they will recommend sikkens.

I will update with some wood chem coating company recommendations if you still wanna have someone do it.

Howard's Restore A Finish and Spar varnish. Fine/very fine sanding sponge.

Damn thats a job and a half!
Only suggestion I would add to what the others have said is a brass kick plate on the bottom of both sides.
