Search 'router upgrade' here in the forum & there's a couple of threads with good info.

You will likely need or want to keep their modem, but you can build your own private network inside their modem that works better. If you buy you own modem, they will always say "your modem is causing the problem" This is a standard response regardless of the truth. I often recommend you keep their device and built your own network inside it. Just like we do for business.

What's your budget and how big is your house? Single level home? Prewired? Unless you have a small place, a single device will not likely be able to cover everything.

I have deployed a few Meraki Go networks for home users. They work well and are easy to manage. The firewall, switches and wireless access point are separate devices. It is the same hardware we use at businesses with different software. They are not "cheap", but not terrible expensive. You could likely setup you house for the cost of a case of 223 ammo. I have a good vendor if you decide to go this way.

Always buy and lease their router. As stated above, your equipment will be the blame, always.

I would say Arris/Motorola Surfboard modem but I don't think they make one that works with the DSL signal that Century Link uses. You might also have an issue if Century Link has upgraded your neighborhood and home to their new fiber network.

As for them being able to say the problem is with your equipment is that in all of the homes and businesses that I have installed Surfboard modems in all of my clients internet issues have completely disappeared (other than an actual service outage), they just work unlike the cheap shit that they lease to you.

I have the ZyXel C3000z Modem from CenturyLink, and I have had no issues since I installed that. My old modem I was constantly rebooting.

I got it from centurylink. You have to request it I think.

I think you can get a centurylink modem used, factory reset it, plug in an ethernet cable from your computer to the modem, go to 192.168.0.1, login with admin credentials (sticker on modem) and put in your PPPoE username and password, call them to get it. I see some zyxel c3000z on Craigslist which is the newer one. I might need a new one as I am not sure if the bridge mode is working on the C2100T I have.

I use their modem and bought a reboxed Netgear modem to run smart TV, printerkids school stuff and home security Was a easy set up and it works better.
