Well, everyone, they did it! Smith & Wesson has brought back a version of the M&P15-22 Pistol and this time it has a heck of a lot of new life breathed into it. Previously Smith & Wesson had offered an M&P15-22 pistol variant that did not have an arm brace. This offering was unfortunately discontinued but in a world where AR15 platform pistols are such a hot item how could it not come back and new and improved nonetheless! Let?s dive right in!
As far as specifications go, you may find a fair bit of this familiar if you own or have handled a regular Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 rifle. It has the same obvious controls but the biggest differences are the length of the barrel and the arm brace paired with it. The handguard is also new to this gun and has been shortened accordingly with the barrel. The specifications are as follows:

  • CALIBER: 22 LR
  • ACTION: Semi-Auto Blow Back
  • CAPACITY: 25+ 1 Rounds
  • BARREL LENGTH: 8˝ (20.32 cm)
  • RIFLING: 1:15˝ Twist
  • FRONT SIGHT: N/A
  • REAR SIGHT: N/A
  • WIDTH: 2.0˝ (5.08 cm)
  • OVERALL HEIGHT: 7.0˝ (17.78 cm)
  • OVERALL LENGTH 22.8˝ (57.9 cm) Collapsed 25.4˝ (64.5 cm) Extended
  • ARM BRACE: SB Tactical SBA3 Adjustable
  • WEIGHT: 53.6 oz. (1519.6 g)
  • BARREL MATERIAL: Carbon Steel
  • BARREL FINISH: Black
  • RECEIVER MATERIAL: Polymer
  • RECEIVER FINISH: Black

The MSRP of the new Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 Pistol sits comfortably at $504. As far as semi-auto .22LR?s that seems pretty typical and fair. I think for people out there looking for a more compact fun gun or even a practice version of their big boy AR pistol, this would be a great offering. In fact, I cannot think of many other brands at all that have something like this and that is super exciting.
