22lr rifle again.

Ok there has not been enough gun talk here on this gunboard. So let?s pretend we can get some ammo and talk 22lr rifles.

Things did not align last time I wanted to buy a bolt 22 so wanted to ask again for recommendations and ask if upgrading the 10/22 is a better way to go.

The gun stores are mostly dry but Murdoch?s had a Christiansen arms, a Bergara (I think) with a carbon fiber barrel. I think both were semiauto so I was wondering if upgrading a 10/22 is not a better way to go. The only bolt gun I saw was a RIA m14y. Those are decent for the $ but clearly not precise.
Also since I have not bought a can yet a bolt gun has no benefit right now.

So maybe the following upgrades: a tacsol barrel, a decent 3-9 Leupold, a trigger update and eventually a stock.
Anyone done a similar project?

Yes. Did you run a complete update on most of the components? Would you do it the same way again?

All I did was buy a barrel and the stock, everything else is factory. I love it because it is stupid light (3.5lbs?). I've mostly used it for small game hunting, with the red dot zeroed at something like 13 yards for CCI quiets. I think I'd do everything the same again; perhaps something like a 1-4 optic would be nice.

I spend more time behind my 22 bolt gun than semis. Lower rate of ammo consumption. Even practice with Eley at .25/rd is better than $1 + for centerfire.

I made almost a carbon copy of Irving?s rifle after shooting his. Mine is tons of fun and likely could fare well as a precision type rifle with the right optic but I?m happy just plinking away with the red dot.

I do have plans for a bolt action in the future but am waiting for the firearms world to return to some sort of normalcy before diving in.

If you want to upgrade your 10/22 for accuracy, I would recommend Kidd.

I?ve weighed mine and with a fully loaded magazine and the optic it comes in just shy of four pounds.

My rifle is a copy of wulf202's rifle after he let me handle his.

I wouldn't fix up a 10/22 unless it's something like a Kidd. It would be a Franken-Rifle. Some end up good, some end up as a money-pit, and you never get you money back out of it. At that point you might just buy a Kidd Super-Grade exactly how you want it.

Ruger RPR22 can be hit or miss, but for $200-$300 some really shoot well. More than that money and I would pass.
Tikka T1 is a good rifle and not expensive.
CZ457 is a great little gun for the money.
The Bergara is supposed to be very nice. R700 footprint, trigger, magazines, etc is a really nice thing
Anschutz is an Anschutz. Only downside are magazines.
40x / Vudoo / Bighorn are the next level up.
