eh…forget it. For the price I can buy a Kidd barrel and single stage trigger for an existing 10/22. I got excited by the look.
Never complain; never explain.
My Feedback
Yea kidd components or complete rifle package rule (about as well as a 10/22 can run, I would still grab a bolt action for reliability). Also, didnt t/c just get dumped or put up for sale by the parent company last week? That would make me nervous for future part support.
10/22s are easy to build and modify and they are a never ending rabbit hole of $$$
I'd opt for a bolt gun, too, but I'm assuming this is for precision .22 shooting. That's an assumption and is probably wrong!
Out of curiosity, what is the intended purpose?

I just like to poke tiny holes in paper and bounce around cans and steel plates when given the opportunity. I'd like to say something more interesting like competition shooting, but I don't have the time for that currently.
Never complain; never explain.
My Feedback
Gotcha. I'm not trying to talk you into or out of anything, but there are quite a few good options out there in bolt rifles from dirt cheap to holy cow in price. I have a couple on each end of the spectrum, and they are a ton of fun to shoot. If you're wanting the ability to pull the trigger real fast, that obviously disqualifies a bolt gun.
One thing that might play in your decision is this. I have several semi-autos, and with the subsonic target ammo I regularly shoot they don't always cycle reliably. Just not enough energy to run the bolt. I've worked around it by changing recoil springs, etc, but it wan't my favorite task.

I'm certainly open to suggestions on a solid bolt action .22LR.
I have a few bolt action .22's, but it's all old stuff I thought was neat. Nothing modern at all.

My Feedback
I have 2 Savage 93 series. Both have been re-stocked because I bought them with the cheap tupperware stocks. I know Savage has a spotty reputation, but in my experience it's undeserved. Both guns are astoundingly accurate for what turned out to be a $225 barreled action. I shot one of them at the Olympic Training Center for a couple of years. My best score with it was a 598 (perfect is 600) which basically equates to 60 consecutive shots into 3/8" at 50m. I had 50 in the 10 ring and 2 in the 9 ring. That was shooting Eley Yellow. The other has proved similarly accurate, though I never shot it down there. Interestingly, one or the other shoots CCI Standard into 1/2" at 50 yards. It shoots that ammo better than my expensive stuff.
The CZ 455 is very popular in the mid range, and I've heard good things about the Tikka T1X.
If you have a giant wad of cash in your pocket, my new Vudoo 360 is pretty amazing. The RimX is another fine choice.

Problem with most decent bolt 22s right now is magazine availability. Finding 10 round mags for either tikka tx1 or cz 45x series (even vudoo mags) is a frustrating experience. The exception to this is ruger does have plenty of mags available, both factory and aftermarket.
After having gone down the 10/22 route multiple times (ruger and Kidds) with a ton of cash I’d still recommend a modern bolt action of some sort. Cheaper and more reliable in the long run.
Bergara, for one. The ruger precision, or these choices.
