Added gmail mailbox to Yahoo mail, flagged as "Not verified"

Google has failed me. I've searched a variety of keywords for both yahoo and google mail, but haven't found anything useful for this issue.

I created my kid a GMail email account, which worked fine.
I use Yahoo as a dashboard for all my email accounts, and I added his mailbox to my Yahoo account as a parent. I want him to only know he can access it through the Yahoo interface because I get reports and it requires me to log him in. This will give me a semblance of oversight until he is old enough to know better.

When I log in directly through google the account is active and has email; security alerts from my logins.
When I log into my yahoo account his mailbox has a red flag saying "Not verified" and his inbox shows no mail.

I've never seen this. I have a handful of personal accounts from yahoo, gmail, and live all connected into my yahoo account and have never had an issue. I've added a couple of screenshots. If you've got a suggestion, I could certainly use the help.

Access through Gmail direct seems fine:
