Looks like a short action. I’m gonna bet 6.5creedmoor, but if it’s a 7mm-08, I’m in love with it. Looks fantastic!

I don't have fancy enough hair to go with the 6.5

That should be a nice rifle.
I hunt with a suppressed .308, but mine is a budget Ruger American with a modestly priced 1" scope. The .308 was a compromise for me, simply because I couldn't get one in a long action. It's been working fine on pronghorn, deer, and elk for quite a while now though. Good luck out there.

My muzzle loading Moose hunt starts soon. I finally purchased ON-X hunt over the weekend. Looking forward to having a few hours to get that set up and the maps moved to my phone. It's already been helpful though, I found that about half the swampy areas I'd marked on google earth are private land.

Hahaha! I use a 308 to hunt with as well. A good choice for basically anything in CO.

I'll upload a photo when I get around to shrinking one down enough for the site to accept it.

I got my bull moose on the 12th. I took him in the afternoon, about 30 minutes before sunset. Then my hunting partner and I spent most of the night skinning, cleaning, and hiking him out. It was heavy work.

I knew going in that moose are big animals, but wow. It was like breaking down a steer. Getting the guts out was considerably more difficult than an elk, the connective tissue in there was no joke. There was no way for us to hang him up, so we had to do it on the ground. We got most of him, but were frankly just too tired to get the ribs.

The 4 quarters and extra meat we were able to get was 408 hanging lbs at the processor. There's a fair amount of bone weight in that figure from the legs of course. But I'm pleased with how this hunt went, and I'm very glad I didn't shoot the small boy I had a chance at on the 11th.

I had decided on a European mount instead of a shoulder. I'm looking forward to getting that back. I'll get the skull in a few weeks. The tanned skin will likely be over a year.

Edit to add antler measurements taken by the CPW

Right side base circumference was 6 & 4/8"
Left side base circumference was 6 & 2/8"
    Spread was 44 & 2/8"

having killed two moose in AK, I know exactly what you're saying about the size of them. It's a little overwhelming to walk up to one for the first time, and the second time. Of course, those moose up north are even bigger yet, but it's a job to quarter them and haul them out. How far did you have to carry the meat out?

Congrats on the kill. Enjoy the meat. It is excellent table fair.
Laws aren't "preventable" measures. IOW, more gun laws won't stop mass shootings.

Congratulations on getting the moose! Did you get it with a bow or muzzleloader?

Sharing the Amazon Photos link as it's easier than shrinking them down.

It's amazing that these are the smallest of all the subspecies. Big animals. Beautiful up close, and I was amazed at the depth and softness of the fur.

The tenderloin I cooked up was excellent (I gave the other one to my hunting buddy). My boys ended up eating about 90% of it. We are looking forward to a relatively full freezer.
I'm hooked on moose. We've started talking about where to go to get another bull since CO limits me to the one. I need to research how the odds are on drawing a cow in CO. If it doesn't average 20 years I'll be putting in for points again next year.

I wrecked him with the shot, but he walked 340 ish yards uphill after being shot; tough animals. I was concerned we wouldn't find him since the hide and hair are so thick there wasn't a blood trail we could find. This put him 70 yards on the other side of the road. He was in the thick stuff so it wasn't an easy or straight hike back and forth from the road, but it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been. The difficulty was compounded by working in the dark with inadequate light.

Muzzle loader. I used the Hornady Bore Driver bullets. The hole where it blew through the rib was impressive.

I saw a bigger moose back in there, but I'd been after this guy for a while. He was "big enough". Looking back, since I only get the one tag, maybe I should have gone after the bigger guy. But I liked this one at the time.
