    Default Carry 45

Looking at a new carry 45. Considered the Kimber Ultra CDP years ago and heard about quality issues. Is it better now? Thoughts/Opinions?

If it were me and it had to be a Kimber, I'd look into a used Series I before I'd buy a new Series II. Or check out the current Springfield offerings. Or spend a little more and check out a Dan Wesson.

Good carry guns are good carry guns. Caliber is mostly personal preference.

Probably not the advice you?re looking for but even in 45 caliber I?d lean towards something reliable from Glock, Sig, S&W etc.

I can agree with you on this- Old Kimbers were good pistols. Don't overlook Smith and Wesson either. Are you locked into a 1911 style?

I recently picked-up a P220 Compact- 6+1 capacity and can use the normal P220 8 rounders if desired.

I have a shield that I like but have been wanting a 1911 style for a while.

Ok. Then I vote for a Detonics Combat Master. Just because.

I’m fond of the Sig 1911’s and think the C3 is a great carry 1911.

I generally dislike Glocks, but years ago briefly owned a G36 which was quite good. Subcompact single stack 45.

If you're looking for a 1911 and aren't dead set on 45 ACP, I really like the Springfield EMP, which is available in 9mm and 40 S&W.

With 1911s, the smaller you go the more problems you'll have... Officer sized Kimbers are notoriously problematic, but some guys get pistols that seem to run well out of the box. Haven't heard many complaints about the 3" Colt Defender though.
