AR cleaning gear

I've recently bought a A4 rifle (20" bbl) and I'm trying to put together a cleaning kit for it. I'm sure there are a lot of things available but what do I actually need? I would appreciate recommendations on cleaning rods (length), cleaning solvents and lubes, plus other essentials and various "nice to have's". I'm more interested in the things I would use at home. I will build a field kit at a later time.

to hell with a cleaning rod, get a boresnake, you love yourself for it, but what you do in your private time is your own business...
but really, boresnakes save you soooooooo much time and effort, plus they are easier to carry.

as far as solvents, i don't use any, just some good ole CLP, (cleaner lubricant and preservative), i think its called "break free" at wal-mart, kts pretty much what the military uses, you use the same fluid for cleaning and lubricating (hince the name) you can get both at wal-mart.... like 12 bucks for the boresnake...

Oh, and don't forget a toothbrush, an old cut up t-shirt and some q-tips

The bore snake is a must for any kit. If you have the full stock with the trap-door compartment put a GI cleaning rod in there. You never know when you have to knock out a stuck case.

Pipe cleaners are useful too.

+1 more on the boresnake. Also (shown in the thread Quib listed) pipe cleaners are a must, and I keep Q tips. I get the long wooden handled medical type. I use GI bore cleaner, or Hoppe's #9. I wipe down the exterior with CLP, but I don't like it for the moving parts. For that I use Rem Oil or something similar. For a Garand or M14, I use the grease in those little GI plastic pots or Lubri-Plate, 130A I think. Also, if you like that copper stuff Glock uses, it's the exact same thing as Fel-Pro C-5A copper anti-seize compound that you can get at NAPA.
