Default CPW Preference Point Banking Survey

Today I received an email with the same Subject line as the title of this thread.

I was wondering if anyone else received this email.

I haven't taken the survey (still debating it), but here's the bulk of the content of the message:

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission is considering implementing a preference point banking system for the future drawing of deer, elk, bear, and pronghorn limited licenses. As a high preference point holder in Colorado, CPW would like to gauge your willingness and interest in using a preference point banking system to expend your accrued preference points.

Please fill out the survey linked below by COB Monday April 17, 2023. The survey should only take about 5-10 minutes to complete. You will need to enter your unique ID (see below) in the survey. This survey link and your unique ID is intended for your use only; please do not share with others.

We do not want point banking. Unless you have a ton of points, you wouod make out pretty good, people with little to no points would be hosed in future draws.

Ya, well... "Colorado Parks and Wildlife would like your help with a survey we are conducting with high preference point holders in Colorado."

Little to no points = no voice in this survey.

Didn?t get one, I?ve been saving up for a great elk hunt, so I have plenty of points for one.

I would be curious to see what their proposed changes would be.

CPW is discussing an all draw elk archery season getting rid of archery OTC as well as Point Banking which essentially means that if you have 14 points saved up and you apply for a 4 point hunt rather than your points getting reset to zero as they do now you are only charged your 4 points and you keep the remaining 10.

Default CPW Preference Point Banking Survey

9pts for mule and elk, no survey, wonder if it is +10 or +15pts.

I expect an end to the OTC hunts if the CPW is interested in management and not just tag fees. Foot traffic and pressure is pretty absurd in the few units I have hunted the last couple years during archery.

I'm kind of curious. I have 23 elk points, but did not receive the survey.
If it is the only use what is needed points, they did that several years ago, but then got rid of it. I liked the idea of it because I could put in for a cow tag and not loose all my points. At the time, cow tags were 1 point, now they are 3, so I wouldn't do it. Points creep has been frustrating, as when I started putting in for this tag, it was 9 points. Now it is 27, and still climbing.

You can apply for a point as your first choice and be sure to get that point, and apply for other hunt codes after that.

I don't like point banking, as it'll only make the point creep worse than it already is.

Should go back to the making everyone pay for the tag up front, like it used to be, that would keep a lot of people from applying just for points.
Laws aren't "preventable" measures. IOW, more gun laws won't stop mass shootings.

Yes, you can buy a point each year, you can then draw as a second choice or buy a left over tag or an otc tag.

Yes, point banking will lead to point creep across the board rather than the few hot units that everyone wants to hunt.

Yes, make people pay up front when applying for the draw, that would weed out the guys that apply for every possible tag in every state and then cherry pick the ones they draw and return the rest.
