I only have some experience with a new T870. It was a good machine, but $100k, joystick controlled. My machine is a john deere. This is a smaller machine that should do decent at dirt work. They are great for tight quarters, cleaning out barns and such. For digging, you will want teeth on the bucket, or a tooth bar that bolts on. They can be expensive to fix for the pump or motor, but hoses are fairly cheap and these machines are fairly easy to work on.
I know nothing about them, but I've seen very impressive video's of skid steer's. I'd love an expensive one. But I had walked away from a 20k 35hp tractor because I even with my emu/goats/20 other critters wouldn't get that much work out of it. 8k is getting close enough for convenience cost worth it even if i dont do 8k of work. (on demand vs having to try and tow a rental up here)
