Active know skid steers?

Newer friend out here has another friend selling this guy. Compared to tractors, skids seemed way more expensive. So to be this affordable, I don't know how far past a good idea it would be. mainly want it for moving since dirt to build a berm, and maybe run a brush hog, tiller etc? (would this even have a front pto or whatever?)

Front hydraulics are there (hoses on left boom in the pic). Brush hogs won't hit an even cut on these due to bounce, but would be OK to just clear up messes.

This does not have a pto, it does have standard flow hydraulics on the front. It has 46 hp and should lift around 1500lbs. It weighs around 5500lbs, so you can haul it on most trailers. I only have some experience with a new T870. It was a good machine, but $100k, joystick controlled. My machine is a john deere. This is a smaller machine that should do decent at dirt work. They are great for tight quarters, cleaning out barns and such. For digging, you will want teeth on the bucket, or a tooth bar that bolts on. They can be expensive to fix for the pump or motor, but hoses are fairly cheap and these machines are fairly easy to work on.

There is sooooo much to look at with an old machine. All of the pins first. What was it used for? if a breaking hammer, forget it. All of the attachments for the skidsteer are 4x as much as for a tractor. A brushhog for a small tractor can vary from $1500 new on up. With many of them in the $1500-3500 range. You can find them used everywhere. Starting at $3500 for the skidsteer.
Auger for drilling holes? Cheap for the tractor, very expensive for the skidsteer.

Everything will cost you more with the skidsteer, maintenance, paying someone to work on it, accessories. Etc.

Skidsteer does move dirt and dig 10x better than most small tractors. You can move faster, change directions faster, do everything faster. Skidsteers auger holes better too. Some tools take high flow hydraulics. Something to watch for.

I have a couple of tractors and a skidsteer. The tractor does mowing and 3 point needed things. The skidsteer does all of the lifting, feeding cows, digging, etc.

They're a purpose designed tool for tight areas. If you just want to move dirt and have space a backhoe is better
If you want to mow a tractor is better.

But if you need to maneuver, this is the tool for the job.

It's a good price if that machine checks out. You can have him take to to bobcat for a purchase inspection and dicker on the price like a used car
Like hbar said, depends on how it was used. It would give me pause because they had to get a bigger machine, meaning they ran this one hard.

I know nothing about them, but I've seen very impressive video's of skid steer's. I'd love an expensive one. But I had walked away from a 20k 35hp tractor because I even with my emu/goats/20 other critters wouldn't get that much work out of it. 8k is getting close enough for convenience cost worth it even if i dont do 8k of work. (on demand vs having to try and tow a rental up here)

I was going to buy a new ~40hp 4x4 tractor, but went ahead an added another $20k for the skidsteer to turn it into a business. I purchased a hi flow mulch head, along with a few other attachments. It is a very lucrative business, but I have found I lack the time to truly make its potential. I stay as busy as I want to, but have to turn down or delay jobs.
