    Default Production ammo variations

Had mag feeding issues in a 22/45 today at Steel Challenge. Ammo appeared to be binding in mags and causing FTF. Overall length appeared to be long. Ammo was CCI AR Tactical 22lr. Switched ammo to some Federal bulk pack and issue stopped ammo fed fine.

    Anyone experienced this before?

I have not yet checked the CCI with micrometer to see if matches published specs.

I had a 22/45 and I only ran a few brands through it but they all ran fine. Going off of my poor memory I believe it ran fine on CCI standard velocity, Federal automatch, and some sort of Eley (ten x?).

Hope the malfunctions didn?t ruin someone?s match or make for a bad experience.

Appears to be purely a mag/ammo issue. Gun ran perfect when I switched ammo.

Even had some issue with well used mags borrowed from another shooter.

Will be doing some measuring with micrometer later this evening. I believe will find the CCI is slightly over sized in length.

Interesting. I've tried a whole host of brands with my 22/45 lite mk iii and never had any issues. Federal bulk is what I mostly used though, just because I have a lot of it.

It'll be interesting to get a report on what you find after measuring the ammunition.

CCI AR Tactical which is the ammo that was causing issue measured .990 with variation of .002 + or -.

Federal Champion 36gr copper hollow point measured .975 with similar variation as CCI.

So until I get a few thousand rounds thru the mags or get motivated enough to polish interior of mags I will check and run ammo that measures close to the Fed Champ.

    For what it's worth

SAAMI spec is 1.000" -.050" for both Match and Sporting 22 Long Rifle cartridges.

Federal bulk pack is my go to plinking ammo.

Federal Auto Match is also really good for plinking.
