    Default Hunting Licenses Cut

    https://www.skyhinews.com/news/cpw-m...west-colorado/

Officials from Colorado Parks and Wildlife warned hunters to expect major reductions in the number of big game hunting licenses issued for mule deer, elk and pronghorn in Northwest Colorado this year, and now that the figures are out, the agency is calling the cuts "unprecedented."

As a result, male and either-sex mule deer licenses have been cut by 5,000 - a 48% reduction - in the severe winter area that reaches across the northwest corner of Colorado. Meanwhile, hunting licenses for female mule deer have also been cut by as much as 94% with 2,900 fewer licenses being issued.

Additionally, Parks and Wildlife has reduced antlerless elk license allocations by 89% in the severe winter zone with public cow hunts also cut to the minimum of 10 licenses per hunt code.

How does this work for people who already have drawing licenses for the impacted areas?

If you drew the license, then you are one of the lucky ones.

They cut the quota, so there will be less hunters out there in those units. However there are less animals to hunt.

I put in for Deer, Elk, and pronghorn in the severe winter area. Oh well. I hope the herds get healthy quickly.

Looks like the only thing I'm likely to draw is bear.

My brain is working kinda slow this morning. Yes- With the draw applications just submitted in April, they can tweak the numbers before results are released. For some reason I was thinking the results had already been published and they were going to have to recall and cancel permits.

They never know the exact numbers of tags that will be given out by the time that everyone puts in for tags in April. This past year they knew they were going to have to do something about some of the NW units so they put out the warning. Tags are just being drawn this week.

Wolves will definitely help the herds rebound

I am not smart enough to edit the "title"
