I'm no expert but I have thoughts on LPVO's.

Consider if you want daytime brightness on illumination. Not every one of them has that.

If you're on a budget and second focal plane I wouldn't recommend past 6x. The glass at lower price points can't really handle 8x or more and there's a whole thing about BDC reticles only working at max zoom.

On my 3-gun rifle I traded higher magnification for better glass and daylight-bright red dot on a Steiner PX4i. It's been doing great for quite a while now and 4x is plenty for the matches I shoot that get to 400 yards.

Someone may correct me but I think the ones to look at around the $1000 mark are Eotech and Trijicon. The next leap up is the Vortex Razor.

I was recently in the market for another one but I have other priorities in my life right now it would have been foolish to drop ~$1000+ on a good one. My research said brought me to the conclusion that if I can't afford the one I wanted then I should spend $250 on the OPMOD Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6. It's Optics Planet's branded version but it's the current one and still comes with the same lifetime warranty. So far so good!

I could go on for a while but I hope that helps a little.
