My buddy shot a turkey Saturday. Went out just that one day worked on getting closer to one tom responding to his call and six toms walked in front of him. His first Colorado turkey after accumulating seven preference points for the drawing. I am happy for him.

He told me it was the Bosque Del Oso State Wildlife area. Hope I spelled that correctly. It is west of Trinidad. It supposedly has the second largest Elk herd in the state. The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation helped the state buy the area somtime around 1998.

Evidently it is a great turkey area also.

Yes,, I was lucky enough to draw there the first year.. Never saw a Cow elk, which I drew for.. Saw plenty of bulls and Turkeys..

At the time,, Saw a flock big enough, and close enough, All I needed to do was start swinging the rifle,,

I was going to try that spot a few weeks ago but it was to wet/snowing that weekend. Last year that area had turkeys in abundance. I'm thinking of trying more south west.
