I have nothing constructive to add.
I am a 3rd generation native to Colorado.
Just as in 2012 I watched our elected officials completely disregard their constituents to appease outside interests.
    I wrote.
    I called.
I attempted to stand before those elected and voice my opposition.
    I was denied that opportunity.
    In my native state.

As much as I dislike Sullivan, if it wasn't him, it would have been someone else that put this garbage into motion.

For those of us that love this state and are not going to flee, we have to continue the fight to get the bums kicked out.

Swap 6 seats in the Senate or 11 in the house and bullshit like this won't pass. I'd say a Republican governor as well but that is less likely- there are no big name R's willing to run.

Yeah, that?s it! We can vote our way outta this!

This makes Polis very dangerous- he has committed political seppuku in his signing of this legislation. He was likely told that he will go no further in the party by the party
He has nothing to lose politically and can now show his true colors as the Marxist Democrats that he is.
    Hang on to your ass.

While I don't support the legislation, it was very apparent that he would sign it and guided the amendments, making it clear he would have vetoed the bill if it did not include provisions for people to "buy anything" after getting the card.

    * I don't agree with the legislation.
    * If he was showing his true colors / controlled by the D powers that be, I believe he would've supported the first draft (which flat out banned everything w/ a magazine)
    * An AWB was a guarantee in Colorado, if not last year, this year, within five years.
    * Through negotiations w/ Polis, they heavily neutered it.
    * Yes, it is an overbroad piece of legislation affecting everything that uses a magazine. First-of-it's kind. Court challenges could be successful if lead by people that are not RMGO.
    * Likewise, it's also a bit unusual and a first-of-a-kind among the commie states as it still lets everyone buy everything the day before its effective date - if they have a card proving they took training. (not registration / no database at this time) - Polis made it clear he would veto anything that actually blocked ownership w/o provisions to continue to buy.

Kind of like the Magazine ban with RMGO, we could've had a 30 round limit. This could've been a LOT worse. Thankfully we didn't have Dudley around demanding they pass it without amendments, this go around. Hopefully SCOTUS actually settles the debate soon.

It still is a guarantee as long as the Democrats control everything.

The next time an AR is used in a murder, they will say, "See! This law still wasn't enough to keep dangerous weapons of war off the streets" and ban everything. These laws are not the end. Leftists will not stop until they achieve their often stated goal of making illegal any and all private ownership of guns.

Saying it could have been worse is small consolation. That's like having to have your leg amputated, and the doctor says don't worry about it. The guy that was in here before you died!

Sullivan was on the news last night flapping his jaws about how this was a "small step in the right direction".
Light a fire for a man, and he'll be warm for a day, light a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life...

ignorance. Ever found a liberal that you can have a discussion with?

No disagreement, and I well understand that perspective.

I guess what I'm saying is the perspective that Polis caused this is much akin to the ones blaming POTUS for every bill that comes across their desk. I don't like Polis. He has little to nothing to do with the AWB push. That came from the legislature. Whatever warm progressive butt was in the seat would've signed it.

Polis, instead, significantly limited the effect of this bill.

But I know what we'd have if Polis wasn't our gov, we'd have something that is so-f'ing progressive that we'd effectively have a flat-out-ban on all firearms with magazines.

I guess, my point is - I don't see that day coming to pass while Polis is gov. People can demonize and/or blame him for this, but the "ban everything" day won't happen until our next governor is elected. And this AWB would've likely been at least three years sooner.

So I'm not in disagreement, and not a Polis fan. Saying we can never acknowledge "it could be worse" is almost a Dudley "damn the torpedoes" perspective.

ETA: I guess the TLDR is Polis is a democrat, but on the scale of his support for banning firearms, he's more to the right of any other candidate that could get elected to that seat today. I'm a pragmatist, we're not getting a pro-firearm conservative governor. I always keep in mind what will fill any vacancy that is left behind when advocating for the replacement of politicians.

Well, we'll soon see what Governor Mushmouth will push through. And it won't be good.

    https://coloradonewsline.com/briefs/...governor-race/
    https://coloradosun.com/2025/04/11/m...rnor-bid-2026/

Michael Bennet, Colorado’s senior U.S. senator, announced Friday that he will run for governor in 2026, entering the race as the de facto favorite and igniting a power struggle among the state’s top Democrats over who will be appointed to his seat in Washington if he wins.

    https://www.bennet.senate.gov/2025/0...-gun-violence/

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) joined U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Angus King (I-Maine), Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), and their bicameral colleagues to introduce the Gas-Operated Semi-Automatic Firearms Exclusion (GOSAFE) Act and the bipartisan Banning Unlawful Machinegun Parts (BUMP) Act. Both bills would protect communities from gun violence, while safeguarding Americans’ constitutional right to own a firearm for legitimate self-defense, hunting, and sporting purposes.

“For more than two decades, Colorado has grieved one incident of senseless gun violence after another,” said Bennet. “This common-sense gun safety bill will keep weapons of war out of the hands of the wrong people while respecting responsible gun owners. With this legislation, we are taking an important step to combat gun violence in our communities and protect children across the country.”
