Ever tried to teach someone how to use the reticle in their scope?

I've been teaching long range shooting at my club up in Teller County. One of the hardest things to teach is how to use the reticle properly. I had a brain flash at the last class I held and cut a replica of a reticle on some 1/8" clear plastic. Drew a pic of a target on the white board and was able to illustrate how to use the reticle very easily. It was cool to see the lights come on in the students. I made a special one for my son who shoots with me at the .22 matches. We've been drilling with it at home, and I think I'll take it with me to the next match.

I liked my idea enough (who doesn't like their own ideas?) that I decided to offer them on my website for some other stuff I make. I have three so far and will make other reticles as requested.

That's an insightful idea. How big around are these (assuming that since you're using them for training that they've gotta be considerably larger than an actual scope reticle)?

If you do a M150 ACOG reticle, I'm good for a 10.

Consider adding some paper pictures of things you might target to put behind it. Scale them bigger or smaller for different distances. Put the picture down, spec the enviro conditions, hand them the plastic reticle and tell them to figure out where to aim to hit whatever you identify as the target. About as real world as it can be without looking through the glass.

Tim those are awesome. I like how they are engraved into the clear plastic. These will be a huge help when I am trying to show someone the ropes of how to use the reticle at distance.
