I keep a Judge loaded with .410 shells on the tractor when I'm mowing...which is a LOT in the spring and summer. When I'm doing other property maintenance stuff I'm usually in the Mule. I have a rifle rack on the Mule and keep either a shotgun or a rifle...usually the .410 or a Kel-Tec SU-16. When we're out and about in town, wife carries a Bodyguard 2.0 with a spare mag. I usually carry a 43X with a spare mag (Shield 15 rounders) in the winter. In summer my every day attire is usually shorts, t-shirt and flip-flops...and I keep a Kel-Tec P3AT with a reload in a pocket. I try to keep a rifle in the truck if I know we won't be leaving it unattended for any length of time. But I don't have a way to secure it yet so that's not very often. I need to take care of that.

Honestly, where we live, the threat level is pretty low. Really low. My biggest worry around our property is a stray dog or rattlesnake.

When I lived in Arizona in a remote part of Pima County my dad always had a S&W .357 revolver on him with a Winchester 30-30 lever gun handy. When I got old enough I carried a 1911.45 with 2 spare mags and the old Speer ?flying ashtray? 200gr jhp. I still do today most of the time regardless of where I am though with modern 230gr Federal HST.

Default Just add night sights w/tritium

I like these cheap pistols. Some guys manage to find a 357 Sig barrel and quick change to that caliber on the .40 model

When working in the yard I keep a small can of pepper gel on me for 4 or 2 legged that haven't risen to the level of deadly force. I do the gel since it's pretty windy here all the time.

I also will keep on me, or near me, a G48MOS w/ a RDS.

I always wonder how you remote people react to when the wind blows, and the trees tremble, on a dark night.

Sure, you are remote, but that just makes the suspense greater, that you might have an encounter.

We, in the city, are used to encounters.

... and when my daughter and I got home tonight, we had a mountain lion in the driveway. I had my son grab the 870 loaded with 000 to provide overwatch as we got inside. I had my .38 in one hand, vehicle based Maglite in the other. Fun times...

Those are the sounds you like to hear. I don't react to night time sounds at all because they're peaceful. Besides...I have 6 Corgis. If a flea farts a half mile away, I know about it. If you have dogs you know there's a difference in the way they bark at "stuff" in general, and when they're really barking at "something". The question then is what is the "something". Also a difference in how many are barking. If it's just one, 99% chance it's nothing to worry about. If all 6 are going ape-s**t it's time to investigate. I also have cameras all around the house. Very helpful...
