    Default George Floyd Revisited

A Black man named George Floyd was accused of using a counterfeit $20 bill to buy cigarettes at a convenience store in Minneapolis. Police were called, and a white officer named Derek Chauvin killed Floyd by kneeling on his neck for nine and a half minutes while he was handcuffed face down in the street.

Millions took to streets across the world to protest the police killing of Floyd, a Black Minneapolis man who gasped "I can't breathe," shortly before dying after an officer kneeled on his neck for several minutes in May 2020.

On and on it goes, across hundreds of news platforms. On this, the 5 year anniversary of his death, despite the uproar, I don't see many societal changes.

Oh sure, there are more black people on television commercials. Every police officer is wearing a body camera and are less likely to put hands on anyone, but overall race relations seem to be about the same as they were five years ago. And this, despite the left constantly stalking the racial fires, hoping they explode once again.

What did all the trauma and turmoil and endless discussions on race, racism, and racial inequality actually accomplish?

All the movement accomplished was apathy, which in turn hurt the real instances of racism and inequality.

I don't understand the "culture" that wants to idolize, and make martyrs of, thugs and scumbags like Floyd, Trevon Martin, et al... Personally, I think Chauvin and the other officers were railroaded after this incident. I think race relations between blacks and whites is the worst it's been in my 64 years.

It got Trump defeated in 2020 (although I think the pandemic was a larger factor) which is what I think the real objective was. The Left lives on getting their base riled up, nevermind the facts. That was the goal of the "Summer of Love" and before that the "Occupy" movement. Once the election was over, the puppetmasters moved on to their next "movement".

So far, I think all of the answers are 100% correct.

While I know we still had issues with racism, before Obama came into office we had really made great strides and were on track to seeing it almost completely wiped out of this nation. Since Obama put his racial divide into play, race relations have continued to degrade. Today we're more focused on what makes us different and not our common bonds in everything from race, gender (male, female and the deranged belief of something else), sexuality, politics, and on and on. This is all in the communist/socialist plan from decades ago; they've just ramped it up to ludicrous speed these last 15 years.

ETA: As Benjamin Franklin said at the signing of the Declaration of Independence, "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately". If we are kept divided by even the smallest of considerations, we won't focus on who is actually a threat to our lives and liberty. We must remain distracted by entertainment, politics and other strife to keep us from coming together. Once we come together, we would be an unstoppable force against those who desire to control us.

Which culture are you referring to? Soccer moms with yard signs "Hate has no home here"?

Unilever and Nike giving millions as a show of unity and virtue?

Hustlers and grifters looking make a buck?

Idiots in the media giving breathless coverage to it all, while stoking fear and hatred?

True leftists devoted to normalizing deviant behaviors?

It is all interwoven and complicated. It was an odd time to live through and watch happen.

Remember the culture at the time. MeToo, BLM, COVID restrictions, and gender ideology and pronouns. In each case, there was a wave of genuine concern or outrage, but also a heavy dose of social conformity.

Conformity, moral signaling, and fear of non-compliance played just as large a role as actual belief or conviction.

It, George Floyd, divides America and fosters hate.
