PNC Financial said Monday that it plans to buy Colorado-based FirstBank for $4.1 billion, giving PNC a substantial presence in the Colorado banking market.
The FirstBank acquisition will make PNC the largest bank in the Denver market, and also will give PNC more than 70 branches in Arizona. PNC will also grow to roughly $575 billion in assets.
PNC has been on an acquisition streak in the past few years that has made the Pennsylvania bank one of the biggest players in retail banking in the country, as PNC executives like to say "a coast-to-coast banking franchise."

    Agreed.
I have banked with First Bank for a long time.
I checked to see if there was A PNC branch in the Florida Keys where we like to vacation in the winter.
Nope, everywhere else in Florida, but not the Keys.
So, pretty much no extra benefit that I can see.
Too bad the customers and deposit holders will not see any of that 4.1 billion.

That’s a shame. They seemed to be one of the better banks… I’m generally more favorable toward credit unions but FirstBank has been an icon in CO longer than I’ve been here. Too bad the acquisition means some job losses….i know there will be some in the Corporate side… my friend and neighbor lost hers when BMO bought Bank of the West a while back

I use PMC for my business account. Over the years they have been Compass Bank, BBCA Compass Bank, BBVA, PNC.

As a bank everything I have ever applied for through them ranging from business vehicle loans, business line of credit, bank credit card and so on has been turned down. They rank high in the DEI banking scores though. The only reason I am still with them is that I do not have the time to spend researching and switching to a new bank. The people in the local branch are nice enough though.

I’ve been with First Bank for 28 years, love it. Was in a branch today, the teller said at this point they’re being told their jobs will continue. I’ve had nothing but first rate service, the fraud department kicks ass and works very fast on suspicious activity.

Yep, concerned about how things will go. Been with them 40 years or so. Parents with them even longer.
Sometimes people trip and fall down stairs.
Sometimes assholes push people down stairs.
That doesn't mean "stairs are bad" nor does it make someone who pushes someone down the stairs any less of an asshole.

Dang. I'm really happy with FirstBank, they're the only reason I haven't switched to a credit union.

I feel for you FirstBank customers. My one and only interaction with PNC was huge pain in the ass. To summarize, they wouldn't cash a Progressive Insurance check made out to me (alone) at one of their branches. Multiple forms of ID and a Progressive rep couldn't get them to budge.

It's a measure of the civility in this country that no ones seems to fear constantly pissing off the people who own lots of guns.

lol. Guessing they were not your bank so depositing it wasn’t an option? Did they just think you were a fraudster?

No, not a customer. I meant to say that the Progressive check was drawn from a PNC account. That's the only reason I was there.
