The majority of my supplies are at home, I know the layout of surrounding area, I know where I can get supplies easily, and I have a better plan of how to defend it should the need arise. I think bugging out should be the option when your primary location (home) is compromised to the point where an unfamiliar place with limited resources is the best option.
