OK, so they're getting some snow. This is one of the reasons that I like to have a couple week's worth of food around. It took me a couple years to make my wife (who grew up going to the store every day or two) understand that to me, a couple week's worth was rock bottom. After a snowstorm or two where we didn't have to go to the store as the mess was underway, she got it. When I was deployed for the war in '03 and we had the big blizzard, she had plenty in the house for the three days she was snowed in. What's that old saying, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure? LET IT SNOW, BABY!

(Preferably on a Monday night or early Tuesday!)

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

taught my fiance the same thing.

currently I want to get a generator though so in case the power goes out as well we can run a few items. we have some propane powered stuff in the basement, but not enough to really keep things going for a good week....guess I need to go to wal-mart....or I could just bring the grill inside

Keep a bit of food in the basement, just got the genny cutover installed with the new service panel. No more extension cords! Fridge, deep freeze, furnace, and exterior lights all on backup if needed. Also have the gas fireplace - just need more ammo.

I need to get off my butt and install my gen switchover setup. Right now I'd have to use an extension cord, and that just doesn't work well.

There was a decent snowstorm in 99 or late 98..... i forget, but I was one of the few driving around when the entire city of Norfolk was shut don and if you had duty, was the only people who had to get to the ship. The city, base and everything else was shut down for 2 or 4 days IIRC.

Just like another poster, I displayed my CO plates with pride and had extra opride those few days no one could do this or that because they suckd donkey dick in driving in 12" of snow.

Back during the Blizzard of '97 here in the Springs, (like most) my neighborhood was buried. For some reason or another, no one seemed to be prepared for being homebound. After the second day, a few neighbors dug through a 6 ft drift in the road to let me get my Toyota 4Runner through so I could take all of them (I had 8 passengers I believe; maybe just 7) to the nearest open store to get bare essentials. I was just having fun being one of the very few cars on the road!
