    Default Fuel??

I don't know if this has been covered elsewhere but what provisions has anybody made about fuel? Do you buy a diesel truck or gasoline, firewood propane etc. How about the stockpiling, preservation and defence of these stocks?

I will say that storing Gasoline is something that has to be thought about carefully. I only keep about 10 gallons around and rotate it out every 6 months. I use sta-bil in it as well.

I have got away from things that run on it. The 10 gal is mainly for the chainsaw and a small generator that is only for short/high load applications. I do keep the truck at 3/4 tank or better and it is a diesel. I keep Propane on hand as well as K-1.

You could make a case for Diesel just purely on the fact that it last a lot longer in storage than Gasoline. Diesel can be good up to 10 years, where gas (even with Sta-bil) might give you two.

Speaking of K-1 Please do not spend the $7 per gallon that it costs at HD or Lowes. I have it on hand but also use it to heat the garage. I paid $2.99 per Gallon this morning at Chief petroleum here in the springs.

Alcohol! I've been researching what it takes to convert something to run on alcohol for my drag car. I was also thinking it would be good for "teotwawki" since you can produce alcohol from many things relatively easily.

Running Alcohol in a Race car is no big deal Now running it (and even E85) is another story. Figure another 2/3 more by volume. Since this is the survival forum I will stay out of the race car side but I grew up on methanol.

Alcohol is very corrosive. many items in the fuel system need to be upgraded. It is very hygroscopic meaning it attracts and blends with water. Just some thoughts.
