Methanol is corrosive, ethanol is compatible with most vehicles produced after 1990. Ethanol absorbs moisture out of the air, thus is hygroscopic. It's true you need more alcohol to travel a mile than gasoline. Some vehicles are already E85 compatible. There are devices that can be added to let you run your vehicle on a mixture of ethyl alcohol and gasoline. It usually involves lengthening the time a fuel injector is open.
