Survival Kits

Has anyone ever ordered any these so called "survival kits" online? I was thinking about putting a kit together at home in case SHTF but I'm wondering if its cheaper to order one of these kits or put one together myself?

I have all the guns and ammo I'd need (well need, not want lol, I could always use more)

But I'm talking food, water, first aid, etc. I'm definitely looking at the #10 cans from Mountain House, up to 30 year shelf life but that shit is PRICY!

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with some of these online vendors.

I'd recommend getting a good container,bag,backpack-whatever you prefer and putting together your own. It's usually cheaper and better built if you do your own. JMHO
Just reread your post-if your talking about at home supplies-good shelf system and buy what you will need and most importantly what you'll eat(as in your usual food supplies). I have a couple of cases of MRE's,plenty of water,bought some canned supplies from the LDS site,stock up on canned goods when on sale,TP,toiletries,rice,etc. I camp a lot so I keep fuels on hand for lanterns and stoves.Optional heat such as kerosene tower,small propane heaters(Lowes will be clearing out these in the next few weeks at 50%-70% off). The list can go on and on but I'm set for any long term natural or man made disasters. Plus guns and ammo

They offer many separate items in both dehydrated and freeze dried. They have a flat rate shipping that is cheap ($4.49). They also ship very fast. Other places are kind of hit or miss. I have had part of an order shipped then the rest of it show up 6 months later.

I have used whole egg powder from Walton feed. Probably the same thing. Add a little powdered butter and milk, Mix well and not too bad.

I'd vote put it together yourself. You can better tailor it to your needs and the area you're in (or may be bugging out to). Also, if you've designed it, you can take it out and practice with it and then easily replace what you used without having to rebuy the whole kit, or trying to find proprietary goods (I get most of my stuff from good old Walmart and REI). Further, it will probably mean more (which means you'll take better care of it/restock it ect) to you as well, since you've built it, instead of what someone else put together for you on an assembly line and then shipped it to you. As well, the goods included will be of higher quality - Most online retailers are trying to sell you there product, so they will include as much as they can for the lowest price possible (who wants to pay $500 for a put together survival kit, or even better, who can?), which means crappier items, and if you're life depends on the contents of your kit and your preparations, the last thing you want are shitty materials. Finally, by doing it yourself, you can piece it together, which helps financially since you're not just dropping a wad of dough at once, so you can do it a little at a time and invest in better items than dropping a whole paycheck and eating ramen for two weeks (or at least that's what I've heard from dudes going with the premade "survival" kits") Good luck!

Once ya have had them for a few days they seem normal. That first transition from fresh to powder was so-so. Now there is a product called Ova Easy that is supposed to be better.

In fact I think I am going to try some.
