Going up to Pawnee Grasslands area tomorrow with my grandpa. Apparently there is at least one rattler up there right now. I'm bringing my shotgun with some 7 1/2 field loads in case I see him. Should I try and just get his head to save the body for anyone here who wants him? Or is one snake not enough to bother? I'm leaving tomorrow around 8:00am and live in Westminster if anyone near by wants me to bring the snake back for them. Should I bring a cooler or something?

I'll take a free rattle snake if you get one, they are tasty. I would highly recommend cutting the head all the way off and burying it before you bring it back.

Cool, will do. What is the reason why you do that?

Should I just pack a cooler and throw it on ice? I'll let you know by tomorrow. We don't take I-25 on the way back though. Can I meet up with you on Sunday if I bag one?

If you accidentally get an appendage near the mouth you can still get a venomous bite, even after they are dead. Just a good safety step.
Yep cooler with ice would work, and Sunday should be good for me.
