    Default Mil Surplus .22's

Who's got a surplus .22 training rifle? Make, model, anything special about it? Do you know anything of the history of that model? Let's see what you've got! (Rifles! Rifles! I know Stuart or Funkfool would take that and run otherwise)

I have a Remington M541X that I got new in the box from the CMP in the late '90s. These were made in the mid-80's for the Army to be used as training rifles. I'd guess they were intended for competition and ROTC use. It's a nice little tack driver, but doesn't quite match up to the Winchester 52's or H&R M12's.

good thread i just shot my rifle today i shoot it every wed at 7, 50 yards indoors with slings! shooting NRA targets A-23/5 we shoot 20 shots for record!

i own a H&R Model 12 it was made in the early 90's if i can recall looking it up some where, it is a single shot bolt gun with redfield sites which used to be based in Colorado the front was an olympic globe and the rear is a plama sights. from my understanding it was used to mimic the weight of an M14 for practice. It was produced as a cheaper copy of the Winchester 52.

    specs:
    barrel length: 28''
    overall length: 46 1/2"
    barrel type: target weight-free floated
stock: oil fished hardwood-note my coach who sold me the rifle re finished the stock!
    weight/empty: 12 pounds, 5 ounces
sights: redfield plama rear and olympic front
    sight radius: 32''

here is a picture of my rifle!

I've actually got a Mossberg US 44 (a). I'm under the impression that those were made to be a training rifle during WWII. The one I have was not an actual training rifle though. I'll look up the numbers on it again when I get it back from BPTactical.

And my rifle looks pretty close to that one above. ^
