    Default 10/22 Bolt hold open

I have a 10/22, older model but still semi-auto. The bolt does NOT hold open after last round fired. Is there a mod or something I can do to make it hold after last round?

    Thanks for any help.

That is normal. I only know one way around it, http://www.hawktecharms.com/ruger/10-22.htm (see last item) and it requires speciel mags...

"CST 10/22 Automatic Bolt Stop + Mag*

Until now there has not been a successful means to perform a last shot bolt hold-open function in the Ruger 10/22. The reason for this is due to the rotary design of the 10/22 magazines. Unlike other semi-auto firearms with a bolt hold-open function, the 10/22 magazines have no tripping mechanism built into the magazine follower. The CST Auto-Bolt Stop with its patented “Passive Activation” function overcomes this by eliminating the need to interact with the magazine follower. Instead, the mechanism interacts directly with a cartridge in the magazine. If a cartridge is present in the magazine, then the mechanism allows the free movement of the bolt's forward movement. Once there is an absence of a cartridge, the mechanism rotates to block the forward travel of the bolt. The magazine or the magazine follower is irrelevant to the bolt stop's function. This allows the CST Auto-Bolt Stop to work with or without an empty magazine in place, making it arguably the safest bolt stop design in the world. This product comes with ONE modified factory magazine. Additional magazines may be purchased.

there is no factory BHO. There is the kit as posted above. HOWEVER it is magazine specific. You can convert your BHO to become a bolt quick release.

Hey Tim, a little off topic, but IMHO if you want to perform a couple of cheap mods to your 10/22, look at the following website: www.rimfiresports.com

They have an improved extracter (about $12) and a new bolt release which allows you to just pull the bolt back and let it go instead of fumbling with the factory release. Also about $12 bucks.

If you want to improve the awful factory trigger, PM me and I'll give you my dad's contact info. He got mine to break clean at about 2 1/2 pounds. He has about 50 years gunsmithing experience, so he knows what hes doing. He'll be a lot cheaper than the Volquartsen kit which I almost bought.

Interesting, I appreciate that. It's just an old 10/22 and I know people can sink a LOT of money into those things... I'm trying to keep it pretty basic as it's just a plinking firearm. I was interested in Bolt Hold Open as I always have to hold it awkwardly to release/change mags.

What might I need the improved extractor for? I've never had a FTF/FTE in this particular one and I know I've shot more than 10K rounds through it.

The bolt release I'm a little confused about... I already just have to pull and let go.. not other external buttons/switches... am I missing something? HAHA.

I do think the only real "upgrade" I may do is paint the barrel black, lol. If that's called an upgrade.

That is an interesting site though. Definitely has me thinking... which my wife will not appreciate! HAHA.
