    Default Let's Just Say....

....that the shit hit the fan. You are in an urban enviroment and your weapon of choice is an AR15. (notice the URBAN ENVIROMENT part) Your AR and your sidearm is your main form of protection for your family against gangs, robbers or whatever other bad guys are there. You still have all of your scoped bolt actions to put food on the table if you need them. You will not be going out on night maneuvers to seek and destroy because that's just not your style. (not saying I wouldn't be willing to, given the right bad guys that needed to die, just not looking for trouble)

Would you have open sights, Eotech holographic style, red dot, regular scope, illuminated or other.

I think I would have regular open iron sights because that's what we had on our M16's back in the early 80's when I was in the Army. I would love to hear your thoughts on this one as I am thinking of getting another AR15.

    Thanks Bryan

Let's just say my weapon of choice for SHTF won't be an AR15.

Most likely an AK in x39 or Saiga 308.

I mean it is SHTF and I want something that's reliable and that doesn't have to be constantly cleaned and pampered right?

I've personally never cared for anything that required batteries. They have a tendency to go dead right when you need them. (Yeah I know the new Aimpoints last 750,456,284,905 hours on a half dead watch battery). That aside I also have a concern over EMP effects in SHTF scenarios. So its nice to have something that doesn't require juice. Trijicon makes some cool stuff (expensive), regular optics are cool. Even some of the battery illuminated stuff is groovy as long as it has the etched crosshairs that word when the battery don't.

That said. I still practice with the irons on all my weapons.

Eotech with my backup irons that co-witness in case of battery failure JMHO
Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to Fight, he'll just kill you.

    +1

Also the etched crosshairs thing sounds cool.

I also have to agree with the KISS rule.

For me, since I have worse vision than a myopic bat, I'm going to say conventional scope with just 2X magnification. Second choice would be plain old irons.

Use a Mossberg 500 12gauge w/ 00 buck and you dont need sights.. day or night... besides you can drop at least 2 or 3 zombies with one pull of the trigger...

Yeah, I guess if you manage to catch a couple gay zombies hugging.
