I will state that it has been 5, yes 5 years since I got my last elk tag. Applying in an area that used to get me a tag every, or every other year for almost 30 years! At this rate I willl only be able to harvest another 6 or less elk in my lifetime. If wait times get longer, maybe even fewer!

I don't expect one and it has been 8 years since my last deer tag. It will probably be another 8 before I get my tag... unless I get one of the new "Special" draw that you get automaticlly put in if you have more than 5 pref points. If I get a "Special" draw permit I'm gonna be so MAD! Getting a tag for an area I have no interest in hunting and loosing all my points. Another great idea brought to you from the Colorado DOW.

?? Where are you putting in for a tag, downtown Denver? The area I hunt still has over-the-counter bull tags every year. While I can go several years without seeing an elk in this area, I always see fresh sign (scat, tracks, etc.).

Okay, I've got to do a little research as I've not heard of this "Special" draw that you mention.

Where I hunt elk (and deer), the typical PP requirement is 3 points which means that I get to hunt deer in the area once every 4 years. I don't mind this too much as I'm not nearly as fond of eating deer as I am of eating elk.

I'm sitting at 11 points for elk and I expect that on June 3 I will receive my 1 point for deer. Some day I need to consider where I want to spend these elk points - before the state spends them for me.
