I'm not 100% sure, but I don't see any reason why you can't shoot at one of the nearby State Wildlife areas. As a matter of fact, I've seen a range at the Higbee State wildlife area, but it's outside Lamar rather than La Junta.

There is a state wildlife area about 10 miles east of La Junta, called Oxbow. I believe you could shoot there, but check with a DOW officer beforehand. Oxbow is about one mile before the rest area on the left hand side as you're heading east. If you pass the rest area, you went too far.

Like I say, check with a local or ask the DOW officer before you shoot just to be safe.

Closer to Las Animas But not that far away.

Get to Las Animas Head North on CR10 towards Adobe Creek Reservoir SWA. about halfway there, on the east side of the road is a bare bones shooting area, last time I was there, it had on bench. It's about 150 yrds.

I haven't been there in several years though. So You might want to check locally before heading out..

Of course, if it isn't, You could take a Fly rod and continue up to Adobe Creek,,
