Starship Troopers is campy film making taken to the next level.

It goes from something like a highschool drama movie in the first 30 minutes, until it turns into a bloodbath for the next 30.

    Great flick!

Other campy movies in this genre: Dusk til Dawn, Grindhouse, Evil Dead

That movie just made my fiance angry at me for renting it.

Don't let her watch Grave of the Fireflies then.

I guess there could be a thread for chick flicks that don't make guys want to barf.

I don't go out to movies that often.I have some premium channels on satellite and record interesting movies so I usually don't see them until a year or so after release. I just saw Drag Me to hell. That was fun. The director, Sam Raimi, was returning to his B-movie roots. He mixes comedy in with the scary stuff.

A good movie for gun folk is The Winter War. Its a Finnish movie about their 100 day war against the Russians at the start of WWII. A lot of action. It would be hard to find but the DVD is worth owning and Netflix probably has it.

I don't discriminate against movies based on genre. A good movie is a good movie. If I don't like a romantic comedy, it is because it is predictable, watered down, and just like every other romantic comedy out there.

I'm told that Book of Eli doesn't come to DVD for a couple more weekss, but it is on the Pay-Per-View of DirecTV, so I think I'll rent it this weekend.

As far as Gummo, I can't say it captures my interest, although I am from the Midwest.

Starship Troopers the movie is based on Starship Troopers the book in the same way that Independence Day the movie is based on Independence Day the song by Bruce Springsteen. Heinlein's novel has been one of my favorite sci-fi books every since I liberated it from the school library when I was 15, and the film was an utter abortion.

Layer Cake is one of my favorite films, though. The scene in the cafe is almost perfect in every way.

Okay, that's what I assumed about Star Ship Troopers.

Now you've got me trying to remember which cafe scene you are talking about in Layer Cake. Don't tell me though, I've still got it and will refresh my memory. You don't mean the scene in the club when he first meets that girl do you?

CrufflerSteve: Was Drag Me To Hell better or worse than Legion? Or if you haven't seen Legion, what movie would you compare it to?

Nope, it's the scene with Duran Duran on the soundtrack.

Damn, now I'm going to have to go home and watch it again. It's okay, Gloria hasn't seen it yet, and it is one of those movies that you have to watch at least twice.
