Just saw Thor: Ragnarok. Entertaining, Cate Blanchett was excellent. I could have done without Jeff Goldblum. He's one dimensional, hasn't changed his schtick since The Big Chill.

More humor than I expected, special effects were great, some typical plots and sub-plots, but overall entertaining.

I think I'm gonna wait for that to come out on video.

Inspired by seeing the trailer (below) I started reading the book Annihilation. I'm about 1/2 way through and it's really interesting. I'm really excited about this movie coming out in Feb! Doesn't hurt that it's starring Natalie Portman

I went with the family and saw Justice League last weekend. I'm more of a Marvel guy than a D.C. Guy but for a D.C. movie it wasn't too shabby. Looking forward to the new Star Wars movie in a few weeks.

Same here! I saw something, but didn't look into it yet, but Daisy Ridley (Rey sp?) said "I can't believe people didn't figure out who Rey's parents are after 'The Force Awakens.'"

    Watched The Purge last night.

I'd recommend watching paint dry instead, it would be more entertaining.

Watched “The Hitman’s Bodyguard”. Didn’t really care for it. Did enjoy parts and Samual L. Jackson’s character was pretty good but overall not a very enjoyable flick.

Also watched “Gifted”. The wife and I both enjoyed it if you’re into that sort of movie.

Mrs BG and I had a date night last night and went to see "Hostiles".

I have mixed emotions on it. If you can ignore the progressive, revisionist Hollywood version of history (it's not subtle, but it's not as over the top in Hostiles as in some other movies) it's a fine movie. Christian Bale and Rosamund Pike are outstanding. The story has a lot of potential but it's occasionally overshadowed by the "sorry us American white people suck so much and are so unfair to you Native Americans" jabs that are interspersed in various scenes. Bale plays Capt Blocker, a long-time Army officer assigned to escort a dying Cheyenne chief and his family from NM to MT. Pike is a farmer's wife picked up along the way (not wanting any spoilers to slip).

There's all sorts of late 1800s violence and it's pretty gritty at times...but I wouldn't call it gruesome. The violence is more a product of a lifetime of emotional hatred than gruesome.

Naturally the group encounters all sorts of trials and tribulations along the way. The most disappointing part of the movie is how little the Natives are allowed to interact and say. When they do speak it's almost inevitably words designed to convey a message of wisdom and forgiveness towards the white man. I guess, in that sense, it's better they didn't have more dialogue in the movie.

I'd give it about 4/5 stars based just on the story, cinematography and acting. When I think about the typical, progressive Hollywood bullshit they just can't seem to resist, that's also completely unnecessary, my rating drops to 1/5. Fortunately there's enough action and other drama in the film to keep my mind from thinking too deeply about the obvious message. It was only when I had time to think about it that it started to bother me.
