I had wonderful time this last weekend and got a nice buck. I screwed up by getting the wrong GMU so I did not get to hunt with anyone I know. Thankfully the family owns several thousand acres in the GMU that I got so I was able to hunt. However the other GMU I would have access to several properties, company and driving. Thankfully this patch of land had a couple herds passing through and I was able to get this buck. My step father was worried about fires because the vegitation was awfully dry so he would drop me off and I would hike in about 1.7 miles. Thankfully on the 2nd day I got the buck close to a safe road and was able to not have to bring him out with a long hike. I got this buck with my FN Patrol Rifle 308 at 475 yards he was starting to run with the herd since he was the only buck with 13 females. This was also a kneeling overhand shot since the weeds were way to high for a prone bipod. I had practiced 40 long range shots to get my bullit drops figured out since these Antelopes were not getting close on Saturday. Got it dialed in figureing I was getting an 18 inch drop at 420 yards with the ammo I was using. I used a Sightron 2 6X24 Mildot scope. I figured the 2nd dot gave the proper range and it did. I was able to process this guy in 2 hours with the Outdoor Edge knife sets. Going to have some for dinner on Saturday. Olive oil and montreal seasoning marinate over night. Goes good with rice. Next year I will hunt a Doe since I alternate every year. Funny thing every year it seems Id get more shots on the sex I am not hunting, goes the same for deer. Cant wait for the next deer hunt coming up!
