Looks like the color of clay. Water moving underneath the ice churning up the lake bed?
Clearly a warm area that caused the ice over it to melt out. Mr. Frog was enjoying the extra heat.
Some kind of thick, viscous mud... or clay/oil mix of some kind. Get some decay heat from below bubbling up like a lava lamp, and as the warm goo rises, and hits the colder water over it, it subsides again until another chunk from underneath bubbles up over or through it.
