Mount-N-Slot Surefire Scout Light Mount - A Review

Recently I began looking for new flashlight mounting options. I was also looking to acquire a new and better weapon mounted light. I got lucky with the light, a new Surefire Scout light for a steal of a deal, so now I needed a mount.

I had some specific requirements for the mount. As a law enforcement gun I need a solid mount. I needed a mount that pushed the light forward off of the hand guards. I needed a mount that would take up little to no space on the hand guards. And, if possible, a mount I could put on an issued gun with no modifications to the gun.

I wanted the hand guards as clean as possible. That would do two things. It would allow me to get my entire hand on the gun, and it would not interfere with any locking gun racks the gun might sit in. The gun rack has also eliminated the ability to use railed hand guards and vertical fore grips. So I was stuck with regular hand guards, or the Magpul MOE hand guards.

Along comes Mount-N-Slot. They announce they have a new mount for the MOE hand guards that will mount a Scout light. So lets give it a try.

The mount attaches to the MOE with no modifications. You simply drop two screws through the mount and down through two slots in the MOE. You then attach two backer plates to the screws. So easy a cave man can do it. And it works on regular hand guards.

The light attaches to the mount. You use a Torx wrench, (star driver) to remove the existing Surefire rail mount from the Scout light. Two small screws that are attached with blue loctite. You then take the two screws that are supplied with the mount, and attach the light to the mount. You're all set. I do recommend that once you decide this is for you, that you put some blue loctite on all four of the screws. The mount does come with the proper hex nut wrenches for installation.

The mount sits on top of the MOE hand guards. It pushes the light forward far enough that the light bezel clears the front sight base. This means two things. The light is up out of the way, and it produces less shadow on the gun when illuminated.

So lets look at it.















The fit and finish are great. All the edges are rounded off and the mount is easy to install. The mount will work with the Surefire Mini-Scout. It meets all my needs for this application. The mount is available for mounting on the other side of the hand guards if you so desire. This mount will not work with the current MOE Mid-length hand guards due to the shape of the hand guards. A model is in the works for that application, and this mount will work with standard hand guards.

In this position I can run my support thumb along the hand guards and under the light. If I need to activate the light I can just lift my thumb, move it up and back and I'm on the switch.

There are really no downsides to this mount for me. It is a simple way to get a light mounted in the right place, and not lose any gripping surface on the gun. There is also a mount for the G2 style lights as well.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I've seen Mount-N-Slot on here, but never looked into their products since I don't have an AR. Thanks for the great review!
