Thread: private ranges?

  1. #1

    Default private ranges?

Anyone belong to now or ever belong to any of the private ranges in the area?

I'm looking for a good club to join but having trouble joining because information about the clubs is very hard to come by. Even the ones that have web sites seem to list very little about the club and the range.

I'm looking at the Clear Creek club but the Buffalo Creek one is looking good as well. Price is a factor but I'll consider any of the clubs.

I'd love it if we could get some informatin/reviews about the varying clubs around. I've been posting reviews of some public ranges but its difficult to get info about private ranges without being a member.

    lets hear it guys.

I don't belong to any private ranges. I used to belong to the Pikes Peak Gun club in Colorado Springs. That was over a year ago. I'll try to write down what I remember about it.

The range is located about five miles East of Colorado Springs off of Hwy 94. If you can find Dragon Man's you can find this place. You turn right (South) off of Hwy 84 at the bottom of junk yard hill, and go about a 1/4 of a mile. The range is on the West side of the road.

Lots of trap and skeet ranges, and a sporty clays setup. A 25 yard pistol range, a 100 yard rifle range are also there. They say its 200, but it can't be 'cause I can see that far.

Membership is about $100 a year with a family membership being a little higher. All rifle shooting is from wood bencshes, paper targets only. The pistol range had just been finished when I left and I've never used it. On top of the membership fee you pay $5.00 a visit. They supply target stands, you supply the targets.

They like surplus guns, but aren't sure about black rifles. They are mostly a sedate shotgun crowd.

Porta-potties down by the rifle and pistol range, real bathrooms and a small clubhouse at the entrance just behind the shotgun range. No covered shooting positions, and no lights for night shooting. The range is closed on Mondays or whenever there is nobody there. There are no Range officers, shooters take care of themselves.

Its not a bad place all-in-all. I just never got out there enough to make it worth my while to stay a member.

Most likely too little or too late, but did you check into the Aurora Gun Club?

    try www.arouragunclub.com

I shoot IPSC and 3-Gun there 2-3 times a month.

    Hope this helps a little.
