I can assure you that the Golden Gun Club is way more than $40 a year. I'm a member too. It has very pricey dues. First year, expect to plunk out over $300 with the initiation fee. They have a big mortgage note they are paying off thanks to Pete (I'm pro-gun, really!) Coors throwing them off their original land near Golden (they began life as an employee club).
Membership is $155/yr. If you don't work off your bond, you'll shell out well in excess of $200 per year. Some of the land they are on now used to belong to the Watkins Gun Club. The trap and skeet ranges are pretty sorry compared to what I got used to at TSSC/Buckley AFB. The concrete flatwork is busted up and the skeet houses don't seem to be calibrated very well. Unlike Buckley, they are open to the public and are lighted. There is a charge for both members (discounted) and non-members to shoot skeet and trap.
The rifle and pistol ranges are for members only. They are pretty nice. Most are covered and have nice, sturdy concrete shooting benches. I like being able to shoot out to 500 meters. Full auto is OK in pistol calibers on weekdays. You do have to be cleared ahead of tiime with OW, the club president. This is informal policy, not in the rules. They prefer you don't go FA on the weekends. You might freak out the kids and families. It's also pretty distracting to the black powder match shooters
It's kind of wierd to shoot rifles north towards I-70. You can see the cars in the distance. They don't allow 50 BMGs for that reason. No holier than thou bias, just liability concerns if a round goes off-range.
A big parcel of land sold north of them. Don't know the details, but I thoroughly expect it to get developed, given the proximity to DIA. They may have to move again.
