My neighbor was telling me about that place the other day, it sounded pretty kickass from what he said. $40/yr and you get a key to the gate, and can shoot pistol to 500yds, is that right?Originally Posted by ronin223

I can assure you that the Golden Gun Club is way more than $40 a year. I'm a member too. It has very pricey dues. First year, expect to plunk out over $300 with the initiation fee. They have a big mortgage note they are paying off thanks to Pete (I'm pro-gun, really!) Coors throwing them off their original land near Golden (they began life as an employee club).
Membership is $155/yr. If you don't work off your bond, you'll shell out well in excess of $200 per year. Some of the land they are on now used to belong to the Watkins Gun Club. The trap and skeet ranges are pretty sorry compared to what I got used to at TSSC/Buckley AFB. The concrete flatwork is busted up and the skeet houses don't seem to be calibrated very well. Unlike Buckley, they are open to the public and are lighted. There is a charge for both members (discounted) and non-members to shoot skeet and trap.
The rifle and pistol ranges are for members only. They are pretty nice. Most are covered and have nice, sturdy concrete shooting benches. I like being able to shoot out to 500 meters. Full auto is OK in pistol calibers on weekdays. You do have to be cleared ahead of tiime with OW, the club president. This is informal policy, not in the rules. They prefer you don't go FA on the weekends. You might freak out the kids and families. It's also pretty distracting to the black powder match shooters
It's kind of wierd to shoot rifles north towards I-70. You can see the cars in the distance. They don't allow 50 BMGs for that reason. No holier than thou bias, just liability concerns if a round goes off-range.
A big parcel of land sold north of them. Don't know the details, but I thoroughly expect it to get developed, given the proximity to DIA. They may have to move again.
CCCSC in Dumont is the other range I belong to. It's located west of Idaho Springs, a stone's throw from I-70 - literally. Bluker1 should be real familiar with it.
It's a great place to go shooting when it's snowy and cold. They have enclosed shoot houses on some bays. The disadvantage is there are no long 200 yard+ ranges. I have driven I-70 past that place for years and never noticed there was a range there.
Here's a pic taken recently:

Cherry Creek Gun Club on Clinton Street in Denver is a private gun club with a long history and an active membership.
The new website is:http://www.cherrycreekgunclub.org
I'm a member there and can state that I've gotten a lot of value out of the experience. The membership is knowledgeable of firearms and includes both active and former military, active and former LE officers and civilians from every walk of life.
The membership isn't cheap but you get a place that isn't cheap, either.
There are two 10-lane indoor pistol ranges and an underground 100 meter rifle tube.
There are no hours of operaton. Members are free to come, enter the building and use it, clean up after themselves and then leave. Be that 3 in the afternoon on a weekday or 3 in the morning on Christmas day. The exclusions are for scheduled events which usually aren't much of a problem and are known well in advance.
22 LR long guns can be fired on the pistol ranges (not 22 Magnum). Those of you with 22 LR uppers or other adapters can fire your long arm right there at ranges out to 25 yards.
If someone wants to check the place out I can bring in guests. I need to limit the number of guests to those whom I can realsitically monitor so bringing in 20 people to shoot is not an option but one or two at a time could come in with me to try the range out and get a feel for the place.
If you live in/near Denver this is one place you should consider joining.

Is the rifle tube well ventillated?
I would say yes, it is.Originally Posted by MuzzleFlash
The board has been working hard and spending money to make sure ventillation is taken care of. Naturally there is more ventillation on the pistol ranges where up to 10 lanes can be firing at once.
The board is well aware of the dangers of lead and other airborne toxins and are doing what they can do minimize exposure in our enclosed spaces.
For the folks up North, there is the Pawnee Sportsmens Center. It is located East of Windsor, on Weld County Road 71, between Hwy 392 and Hwy 14.
It provides Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, Rifle, Pistol, and Cowboy Action shooting ranges. They are currently enlarging the ranges to include 2 rifle ranges, one 25 to 250 yards and the other is up to 100 yards. Plus 3 pistol ranges 10 to 50 yards. Membership is $125/year but it is also open to the public ($10) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
