Had lunch at Benny's on 7th the other day. Pork Carnitas were good. No mexi-cola though.

If you like pastrami sammiches, the best I've ever had was at the Highland Tavern, 34th & Navajo. The Rueben's looked good too! Go early, got there at 6:00 on a Thursday night and there was a wait line.

Default Jake's Wayback Burgers - Colorado Springs

After seeing a friend post on FB for a new burger joint here in CS, I thought we'd give it a try last night.
The place was Jakes Wayback Burgers (https://www.facebook.com/jakeswaybac...ref=ts&fref=ts). Their Facebook page has plenty of good reviews, but I suspected while reading them that they're shill posts by the employees.

I had high expectations and was SORELY DISAPPOINTED. They get 1/2 star out of 5!

    2 burgers,
    2 onion rings
    2 "regular" (medium elsewhere) drinks
    $21+; serious ouch.

Service was average at best. No friendlier or accommodating than most other places. Only a few other few in the store (no drive-thru, so didn't have to contend with that wait) but we still had more than 10 minutes of waiting for the food. At a psuedo-fast food place this might have been acceptable had the food been prepared well; it wasn't.

My "Double Bacon Jake" was "meh". The meat was dry & only covered 80% the size of the bun. There was a THICK slice of tomato which wasn't 1/2 the size of the overall burger. You should taste all of the toppings in each bite.

They get the 1/2 star because my wife's "Cheeeesy Burger" was very good (I got a couple of bites) - juicy & cheesy.

The onion rings were VERY Overcooked (to a deep chestnut brown) & as such they were extra greasy. I think they double-fried them to reheat them since the burgers took so long. Worst onion rings I've had in a very long time.

Overall the store was clean, but the ketchup bottles on the tables were disgusting.

I think I'll stick with Steak & Shake or Freddy's for old style burgers and pay less for better food. I don't plan to return.

Nobody can afford it. The spouse and i can grill, smoke, stove top or oven, comparable to most eateries. How hard is it to make a burger cooked the way you want, without waiting 10-20 minutes? Ribs, chicken , beef on the smoker, easier at home besides being hit with a $30-50 bill, for 2. Is it nice to enjoy a meal and get away from the homestead, sure. However 2-4X a month is pushing it for us, monetary wise. Even worse we're only 2, how a family of 4 or 5 manage to eat out??

Exactly! We used to eat out every weekend, not anymore. Once a month is about it for us, and even that may go away when our next son comes.

6 of us in my family went out to dinner tonight. We had originally planned to go to the Rio in Fort Collins, but they were even more swamped than usual for a Saturday night. We called around and decided to go to BJ's off of Harmony in Fort Collins. I called and put my name in for their call-ahead seating. Was told that it'd be 20-25 minutes before they'd have a table for us. I told the girl that would be perfect timing because we would be driving from Old Town Fort Collins and it'd probably take about that long.

We arrived at BJ's 22 minutes later only to be told that calling ahead actually did nothing for us. We were told that it would be **another** 20-25 minutes. The young gal explained to me that they had my name on the list, but when they were on a "wait", calling ahead does NOTHING!

What the hell? Then why did they tell me it'd be 20-25 minutes? Why didn't she say anything when I told her the timing would be perfect. Why the FUCK did she even take my name down for the call-ahead seating. I think they figured once we drove all the way across town, they'd have us hooked. Well, FUCK 'em. I would've gone down the road to McDonald's before I rewarded this type of behavior.

We ended up at a fairly decent, slightly upscale Mexican food restaurant a little to the west of BJ's.

I will NEVER step foot in a BJ's bar & grill and will tell everyone who asks what a terrible experience I had. They didn't just lose our $150 dinner and drinks tab from THIS evening!

Springs Orleans in downtown Colorado Springs. Not overly expensive, but the blackened alligator is amazing. The crawfish etouffee is incredible too.
