Default Anyone have any hunting experience with solid copper bullets other than Barnes.

Is Barnes still king of that hill? How about the Nosler E-Tip or the Hornady GMX.

    338 at a elk. 80 yards
bullet went thru elk, thru a 6 inch tree and then buried itself in the dirt
elk just stood there. 2nd shot hit the spine as it was going uphill.

    I use remington coreloks now

I use winchester ballistic silvertips. pretty good expansion from my .243. just took a deer last week at 250 yards no problem.

I haven't used any full copper bullets.

I hunted elk with a guy who uses only tsx and ttsx bullets from his 338 mag.
the ttsx performed better at the closer ranges and gave better expansion. the tsx struggled at short range but excelled at the long range.

guess it just depends on what kind of hunting you are planning on. maybe have a few rounds of each ready to go.

I use berger bullets in my .243. There tripple shock hollow points and get the job done quick. I believe there a match grade bullet and fly damn straight. 88grn FMJ HP's. Projectiles are long enough that they wont work in auto loaders, but great in bolt guns.

flat tops can be some tough country. I would go with the TTSX. you still are going to have and easy 500 yard range if you do your part and practice but your closer range shots under 150 yards aren't going to blow through the bull and do little damage either. once that polymer tip hits the tougher skin you are good to go. if it hits a rib then you will really do some serious damage.
