I'm in the market for a Model 640 and either a M&P 340CT or Model 642CT.
I plan to check Specialty first.

Nope neither an employee or anyone associated with the business. In fact, since I leave closer to Denver than Colorado Springs, I have a lot of choices where to shop. But I did overhear in the store (customer) the otherday someone mentioning this forum. Thought I would check it out for myself, and I was surprised by the postings. I just thought I would add my experiences that's all.
I haven't shopped there regularly for a while...
I like Jensens prices and SS selection
They stock a LOT of guns...and have stuff that is hard to find elsewhere....there is a cost associated with that.
Jeff is a great guy..in fact I never had bad service there from anyone...a couple guys had opinions that I didn't think much of...but I wasn't paying for their opinion
Some of their items are "overpriced"...at least in my opinion...others are not
I bought a rifle there that I could not find anywhere else for a better price than I have seen since
Their Glocks were always priced at/around market price
I also got some great used deals there ...but I don't subscribe to the
"which means somebody got taken on their trade-in as well"
Anyone can sell a pistol for anything they want...it is worth exactly what someone will pay for it...just like cars you can almost always sell a gun for a little more yourself
Used guns are not some kind of charity where the shop doesn't need to make money
Why is it everyone wants a "great deal" when buying but never wants to sell "cheap" :?:
I think the negative feedback here is pretty weak...more like sour grapes than actual problems...but what do I know
It is worth checking them out (IMO)....then make up your own mind
I didn't get the chance to talk with them at Specialty Sports. Paul (Sigarms rep) told me I won their Dec. contest and asked where I get my transfers done. I gave him the name of my guy, and he said sorry he's not on the list. They send their winners the guns through a SIGARMS dealer. My very next suggestion was Specialty because I SHOP there. He called them on his other line WHILE ON THE PHONE with me. No answer. So he told me he'd call them back later in the day. He called me that night and told me they said fine, they can do it. Then he told me about the nice younger sounding guy and the grouchass.Originally Posted by barettbomber
1st bone of contention with you. SIGARMS calls their customers out of the blue from time to time as a sales call, so it's not unusual for them to call. And there's no "probably" a line of people there at the time unless you were there and know for a fact. He could have just said, hey Paul I have a line of people, can you call back later? I've been in there before in the middle of the day quite a few times and sometimes they've been very busy, and sometimes only 1 or 2 customers. Either way a little common courtesy never hurts when dealing with a customer or a vendor.
2nd bone, Gundealers don't do it out of the goodness of their hearts for NOTHING. They charge $25-$50, in my experience. Not bad money for a 5 or 10 minute phone call with the sender, 5-10 minutes to send a copy of their FFL (Oh wait....they are a customer of SIGARMS, so they already have their FFL on file) scratch that 10 minutes off the list. And then ??? maybe 15-20 minutes to make the phone call to check me out, and fill out the paperwork, and hand me the gun. So $25-$50 for probably far less then an hours work. And I plan on buying ammo and 2 extra magazines. WHOOP, there's a small little sale on top of the transfer fee I expect to pay. Also enlighten me on what their liability is in this?
3rd bone, so Paul remembered the guy's name wrong. So that equates to him being an incompetant idiot going to send my gun into no man's land? He's obviously a busy man since he was heading off to the SHOT show on top of dealing with their contest winner, and who knows what else going on in his life. Sig has been so busy they haven't (at least as of last Friday) gotten their January contest up and running yet. And guess what? He was nice and friendly with me. The whole point I posted was 1 S.S. guy was nice and friendly, and another was a grouchass.
It makes you mad to listen to people complain about such a great group of people. I never impuned what the guy is like personally. Maybe he is a great guy, but when he's rude and grouchy to someone, people will complain. You don't like it, and since you seem to know them all so well, you can find out which guy was grouchy and mention that you don't like to hear people complain about him so maybe, he might want to not be rude and grouchy to people.
I like Specialty Sports. I like the young guy who showed me rifles right before Christmas. I didn't care for being ignored when we then walked acrossed the store and I was showing which handguns I'd like to my wife. I've recommended them to people and I know for a fact my dentist went there and bought an ak47, and some extra mags on my recommendation.
So since I'm a customer, I'll recommend them if I wish, and I'll complain about them if I wish. They have to earn my complaints. So when Paul from Sig, tells me about his phone call with them, I'll surely post it if I believe it. Like I said, if you don't like it, feel free to mention it. I'd be more then happy to never hear or read about them being grouchy or ignoring customers again.
i think one of the people he talked to was chris. i was in there the next day asking about the sig556 and chris said he had talked to sig the day before. chris and i have long conversations about random things and i think it's his tone of voice that throws people off. he always sounds "grouchy" even when he is smiling. don't take that personal it's just the way his voice sounds. he has even gone so far to invite me shooting in his "grouchy" tone. i'm preety sure he was being friendly when that happened. as far as him being the one on the phone it is just my guess because of the time frame.
Chris instead of Craig, would make sense to me. Since I have nothing against him, I'll take your word that he wasn't grouchy. I'll ask for Chris then on Friday when I stop in to order 2 extra mags for the P232. :mrgreen:Originally Posted by shrapmetal
Got a call from Jeff yesterday that the Sig I won in their contest was in. I went in today and everyone in there was having fun, very friendly and helpful. Since CBI took forever I had 40 minutes or so to look around. I know poor me  Everyone working today asked me if I wanted to see something just let them know at some point in my 40 minute long drooling session. I even exchanged words with Chris and I can see by the way he talks that someone could think he's grouchy, but in person you can tell he's not.
I had fun and they didn't even charge for the transfer. I expected to pay, but they didn't charge me. So I'm going to buy them a couple cases of Pepsi next week and drop it off. They told me the 1 Sig 556 that they received sold within 2 days of getting it in.
A shootist friend from back east told me about Specialty when he heard I was moving here, said it had the best selection of any gunshop he'd ever seen. As with so many things he was right. Amazing selection.
I've been in several times to get "need it right now" stuff. I thought their prices were a little out of line at first, but except for trap ammo I think they're OK. Bought a Ruger LCP from them most recently
buy online those guys sucks except for one of them and there prices are inflated. Just take a few minutes and compare Specialty sports to online prices.
I have been in a few times, purchased some odds and ends. They have always been good to me. I have seen 1 guy that strikes me as not wanting to help but everyone else was willing to take the time to answer questions.
Prices are higher than the web but selection is good and when you want it waiting for shipping is a pain.
I give it a B+
