I have bought a few used guns from them and was happy with the price. That was around 4 years ago since I bought a gun from them. Have bought some ammo and small things up to around two years ago. I have been back in since but have not bought anything.
For the most part they were very nice. Only had one experience when I tried to get attention to look at something and felt ignored but that was the only time as most times they are right there with may I help you.

The only reason I do not really buy from them anymore is for a couple of reasons.
#1 I just got frustrated when I went to buy something like powder or primers and they were always out of rem 7 1/2's or reloader-15 and now that I shoot n140 and n540 I rather suspect they would not carry it but have not looked so thats a guess.
Found it easier to buy rl-15 and tumbling media and ammo from Walmart as they have never been out of stock for me and the prices were better.
I hate shopping at Wally world but I do not have much to spend and it all counts up if I want to shoot.
#2 I found that I have met more folks that will let me order any gun unless its a 1 of 100 SS seems to have allot of. its cheaper on my budget to buy from the guy charging me $20 to go threw the ffl. That $20 goes to a local guy also.

They have a great selection and good used gun prices and are for the most part very friendly and I will shop if I think I can or need to get it right now if they have it.

Spec. Sports has moved into their new place on the SE corner of Murry and Fountian. It,s HUGE!!! They are still in the process of getting everything put away, but is worth the visit. The reloading component section is much larger now that they have more space, and they are carrying more product lines including the "511" clothing line, MOD knives, most Blackhawk products, and alot of AR uppers and parts will be coming in in the next few weeks. There were at least 20 AR-15's in stock when I was there today. This place has the best gun selection in the state, bar none. Ryan

Thanks for the tip on the new location. I didn't know they moved. I would have been really confused driving around looking for them.

The guy who taught my CCW class told an interesting story about Specialty Sports & Supply.

Keep in mind, this is all third-hand info.

Apparently a certain female olympic shooter had moved to Colorado Springs and was taking a CCW class from my instructor. He sent her down to check SS&S for a concealed carry handgun. When she tried to buy it, they wouldn't sell it to her. According to my instructor, they told her she'd have to bring her boyfriend or husband or dad in to buy the gun for her. She argued, pointing out that she was an olympic-class shooter, but they refused to relent.

Anyone else here a female (or know one) with experience with this store? I shop there because it has by far the biggest and best selection of any gun shop I've ever seen, but the story still disturbs me. If I get any confirming stories similar to what my instructor told me, I'll probably stop shopping at Specialty Sports & Supply.

My personal experience is, it's a great shop. An employee named Clay was particularly helpful when I walked in off the street, knowing virtually nothing about firearms. He was patient, thorough, and engaging. I have found their prices to be a bit high though. I ended up buying my Glock 23 w/night sights from L&S distributing on the corner of Platte & Circle for ~$80.00 less than what it would have cost me at SS&S.

I know most of the faces, if not all the names down there. Each definitely has their own personality.

Jeff appears to be the owner. He's always in a hurry.
Kim is very pleasant and always remembers my name. I suspect she's Jeffs wife.

Clay tends to be a little "right wing". Probably watches Fox News a lot and seems pretty up on current-events.

There are 3 other guys, but I never remember their names.

Old guy -- randomly walks around the store. Doesn't really seem to know what's going on. Nice enough...

"Droopy dog" guy. A little mopey. Doesn't like to be rushed. Slow and steady. Always pleasant.

Younger guy -- CCW, flashlight, Leatherman on his belt. Dressed for an IDPA match. Seems to assume everyone is an idiot and treats them as such. Very short responses. Won't volunteer ANYTHING.

I'd decided a few times I simply wasn't going to talk to "younger guy" anymore. Seems like he's the only one who isn't busy most of the time though. Now I just keep my interaction with him to a minimum and dismiss his personality as "that's just the way he is" and not take it personal.

As far as the prices, you MIGHT be able to do better elsewhere. Honestly, I don't look too hard.

I've been thinking about 3 guns lately:

Kimber Tactical Pro II in 9mm
    S&W 357PD (24oz 41 Magnum N-frame)
Marlin 1894 CBC in .38 Special

If they happen to have any of those in-stock when I'm in the store, I'll buy them. I'm not going to scour the Internet and various other local stores looking, in hopes of saving $25.

Is this guy fairly tall? Dark hair? Mustache?

"IDPA" guy is probably ex-LE, or ex-military, or ex-military-LE.
