Oh, I drove by, all is well. My retard friend saw a for sale sign up and ASSUMED they went out of business. The sign is just the building owners still trying to sell the building. Karl.

This week I needed some AR-15 take down detent pin so I decided to give them a call as they supposedly stock small loose parts for AR's.
They were "sold out" of most small loose parts. I asked if they had a detent and was informed that I needed to purchase a DPMS blister pack called an Ultimate Repair Kit which was just about a complete lower parts kit minus trigger and pistol grip all for only $50....oh yeah, they said it only came with one detent and spring....I was looking for 4. $200 for 4 detents and more spare parts that I already have....I don't think so.......I got them off the internet for $0.75 for 4 adetents and ended up spending another $50 on other goodies.
I say lets all remove the warning labels and let nature take its course.
I've been in and out of Specialty quite a few times and it has been hit and miss WRT customer service. The most recent time (the time I swore off going back) I had a recoil spring I wanted to replace. This is for an unusual pistol so I asked if they could order it. Answer - NO. I then asked if they would field strip a Sig P226 and let me see if the spring is the same. They wouldn't give me the time of day after that and the counter guy made a point of ignoring me and helping the gang banger wannabees instead of answering my question.
I realize that I wasn't making them any money on this visitl, but would it have been so hard to let me compare springs? I've spent a lot of money there on reloading components over the years (which should buy me some courtesy) but I'm done shopping there.
Just my worthless opinion,
Allan
Hmpf.....
I think we have a trend here.
i have bought around 15-20 guns from them and get great service. the last two i have special ordered with no deposit or any hassels. the one i should be picking up on tuesday was from a company that they didn't deal with yet. they went through the trouble of setting up an account just to get that gun for me.
think about how many people go in there and want to see 30 guns but have no money to buy. i think i might get jaded too. the last time i was in a guy asked to see a HK with a $11,000 price tag. i don't think you should be looking at a gun at that price if you don't even know what it is. they still went through the trouble of showing this to the guy an explaining to him why it was worth so much. they might have been a little short with him because it was quite clear he was not buying it.
they may not be the cheapest game in town but they are worth it. Jeff is the reason that i found this site. he introduced me to Ryan as he thought we might have some common shooting interests. when i bought my wetherby SSC he gave me 4 free rounds of clays to try the sport out.
i will say the service gets a little better the more you get to know them.
Well I FINALLY learned my lesson with these guys. My last visit was literally my last. Too bad to see a private gun store that offers more variety than you can see anywhere else going down the toilet because of a few bad employees, but.......
I went in to buy a scope for my JLD PTR 91. I was planning on a Leupold MRT illuminated 3-9. ~$1000, although I was looking at a few. I brought in my rifle to make sure that there were no issues with charging handle clearance, as when fully back the lever sticks up and is close to the front of the reciever.
I am looking at scopes and the blond heavierset woman is helping me, regular "scopes" guy (brown hair skinnier) comes over and looks at my rifle then says "that rifle isn't accurate enough for a scope anyways". I let it slide as it isn't a sniper rifle although it is pretty close to MOA, and it was pretty insulting to say that to someone about to drop a grand on a scope. Well his next comment after I was looking at other scopes (unsolicited) was to hold up the MRT scope I was looking at and say "this would be a super cool choice" in a condescending sarcastic tone like he was talking to a kid picking out a bike because it was metallic blue or had a horn. So I pick up my rifle (that is sitting in a ~$80 case that I purchased from THEM and has ONLY shot ammunition that I purchased from THEM probably a few $100 worth) and walk out.
I called the store and talked to Jeff explaining what happened after I had relaxed a little, as I was pretty fuming when I left. To his credit he spent probably 10 minutes talking to me and asking what would make it better, what my experiences with that particular guy had been before.
But the fact that it happened is completely absurd. All together with guns, cases, scopes and accessories, I would guess that I have spent an easy $5,000 there. Granted that is not as much as some people they deal with, but you would think that they could afford some courtesy to all customers, let alone people that have spent enough in their store to buy a used car.
/rant off.
ETA - If Jeff turned you on to this site I hope that he reads these reviews, as they are not all gleaming and they involve the same few guys IMHO. Get rid of them and you would probably get a few more customers.
i'm going to stop in in the next few days. when i do i'll bring my lap top and give him the chance to read all of this thread.
I have already given Jeff one of our High speed, Low drag business cards and told him he should REALLY check us out, but I don't think he has had the chance. I hate to see anyone have a bad experience because it such a great place with a selection that is second to none. The next time I am in there, which will be soon I'm sure, I will impress upon him again that he REALLY, REALLY needs to check us out. Ryan
When I really think about it I realize that my thoughts about the store are like a roller coaster. I bought my first "bigger than a .22 rifle" from them, my first handgun, etc. I remember when I first got into guns what a cool experience it was to go into the store and just see all of the guns sitting there. Walking between the safes there to the back with rifles going out on both sides, handguns in the counters to the left, knives to the right. I loved that store. They had AR rifles!!! That was so cool, I remember going in there when I was ready to buy my first AR (the single most exciting gun purchase I ever made. Damn near makes me giggle when I think about how excited I was when I brought it home.) and Kim was so helpful even though I let her know I was just looking until I had enough money. Telling me about the difference between A2 and flattops, etc. I was still in shock that you could buy a rifle that looked that cool LOL. I bought my first G29 from them, and they were the only people in CO who had it AFAIK. Holsters, night sights - everything that nobody else had THEY DID!
I have had so many good experiences there that I have kept going back. But every 3rd visit or so lately I get so irritated that I swear off going back. Sometimes I feel like I am trespassing in there the way that they treat me. Personally I have never asked for a discount or a freebie or anything - I want to see private gunstores continue because 1) they have cooler stuff and 2) they are fundamental to keeping "black guns" on the market IMHO. Walmart doesn't sell them and when Sportsmans Warehouse gets bigger they probably won't either.
All I want is to be treated like a customer (go figure). Maybe I have been spoiled by Timberline out here but a private gun store should be someplace you can go and feel welcome - like a club or something. Maybe that is stupid but when I walk into Timberline they know my name, we talk about guns (right now it is the FS 2000 that I am pestering them about :P ) and even though I don't buy a gun every time they don't make me feel like a thief or an idiot. If I ask them a question they don't know the answer to they say so. And I know their prices are higher than I could get online but I don't care - I want that "legacy" to continue. They take the time to break down the guns (even if I say I don't want to buy it - sometimes even if I am not interested  ) and show me simply because they like guns. I love that! They don't have as much as SS, but if I want it they will order it.
If Jeff does read this I don't know what I would say to him really. It is possible that his store is just so big that it can't have that feeling, I don't know. I do know that when I was going to school in Boulder that I would tell my gun friends up there about the store, and how cool it was - like it was an urban legend or something. They would never believe me that there was a store like that. Personally I would really hate to see the store go out of business, but unless my experiences have been unique I don't see how it won't happen totally or in some fashion - i.e. moving to a smaller store. I have had a lot of good experiences there - but the bad SO far outshadows it at times that I can't do it anymore. In a few months my little brother is going to turn 18 and I want to take him gun shopping - giving him the money to buy a rifle of his choosing as his gift. But I can't do that at SS - because there is a good potential that while he is looking one of the staff assholes (definitely NOT everyone there, but two for sure IMO) will tear him down because he thinks he is ubertactical or some nonsense. And that ability, that place where you can go and look at things and ask stupid questions and not be made to feel anything but welcome is the ONLY reason to pay higher prices.
I don't know really. I guess I have an "emotional attachment" of sorts to the store so I care for it in a way. But the bad sticks more than the good.
When I took my wife in there before Father's day to show her the things I was interested in, I had both experiences. There was a dark haired younger guy in the rifle section that was happy to show me some rifles. Told me he could put the rail on the storm I was looking at, and said they sell the red dot scopes I would want if I got that gun.
Then I was looking at the pistols and after waiting 10 minutes to see the HK .45 compact, we left. Not really mad or even upset, just a huh? type thing.
I don't care how many looky lou's they have come in there. If their job is to be a customer rep, then they need to treat everyone like they have 20 grand in their pocket and are ready to spend. Because all it takes in one rude azz comment to me, and I'd never go back, and tell everyone I know. Same as with most people. Sounds like smart azz brown hair skinny guy needs to find himself a new job.
