The guy who taught my CCW class told an interesting story about Specialty Sports & Supply.
Keep in mind, this is all third-hand info.
Apparently a certain female olympic shooter had moved to Colorado Springs and was taking a CCW class from my instructor. He sent her down to check SS&S for a concealed carry handgun. When she tried to buy it, they wouldn't sell it to her. According to my instructor, they told her she'd have to bring her boyfriend or husband or dad in to buy the gun for her. She argued, pointing out that she was an olympic-class shooter, but they refused to relent.
Anyone else here a female (or know one) with experience with this store? I shop there because it has by far the biggest and best selection of any gun shop I've ever seen, but the story still disturbs me. If I get any confirming stories similar to what my instructor told me, I'll probably stop shopping at Specialty Sports & Supply.
My personal experience is, it's a great shop. An employee named Clay was particularly helpful when I walked in off the street, knowing virtually nothing about firearms. He was patient, thorough, and engaging. I have found their prices to be a bit high though. I ended up buying my Glock 23 w/night sights from L&S distributing on the corner of Platte & Circle for ~$80.00 less than what it would have cost me at SS&S.
