Default Taking my sister shooting tomorrow

After bombing through Season Four of 24 in the last week and a half, my sister has expressed some interest in learning to shoot. We've always had guns in the house, so she's comfortable with the concept, but she's never shot anything but a BB rifle at summer camp YEARS ago and my dad's Star PD .45. So I'm planning on taking her up to the Kelsey Creek range up in the mountains as detailed here: http://www.mrdove.net/denver_lands.htm Has anyone been there recently? Is it pretty decent? I'm gonna bring my Glock, both Rugers, the Marlin, and probably my 16ga A5. Start her off on the MkII and the rifles and move up to the Glock and maybe the 16ga. She's 18 but not very big, and obviously inexperienced, so I figure the .22's will be a good starter.

We're both looking forward to it.

    Cool!

My sister has always been up for going shooting. But now that she lives ~600 miles away it just doesn't happen.

Sounds like fun! I'd let her decide if she wants to step up to the bigger stuff, so don't push her. More recoil than she wants to deal with may turn her off to doing it again. Once she finds out how much fun shooting is, she'll probably want to pursue it.

    Be safe and have fun!

That's kinda what I was thinking, and was a lot of the motivation for me picking up the .22 pistol (besides the obvious fun factor for me ). There are several girls I'd like to take shooting, first timers all, so the .22's should be ideal for that.

Today was awesome, she did really well. She kinda stole my MkII from me, lol - she was definitely having fun with that one. Got the hang of my 39A, too; even though it was a little big for her she got some decent form and was hitting stuff pretty well toward the end. Put about 60 rds through my G19 as well.

Went up to the Kelsey Creek location as detailed on Mr. Dove's website. Good place to shoot, but MAN is it trashed. That place needs a brigade of folks with shovels, a front-end loader, and a dumpster. Computer monitors, truck bumpers, old shot-up propane bottles, etc. Not exactly giving a good impression of shooters.
